Robbo, progress!

I have aligned the dish at due south and sent the motor to thor and have just picked up thor, 92 qulaity, 92 level!! Tightened everything up.

Im getting somewhere.

My problem now is, i then send it to another sat 28.2e and get no quality at all, back to 20-22. Also on the motor it says about 35e instaed of 28.

my lat scale on the motor is set to 53, but the dish declination is around 18 with the good signal on thor.

I have tried usals and 1.2, both do the same.

Thanks

No time to reply properly.
Eneter your lat and long into receiver, for usals.
Check chanels on 1 W 11325H=BBC World.
Get your motor elevation set to lat

That is very good advice robbo has given you. If you don't have your lat and long enter into box it will not know where to go to in order to find the sats.

Everything should work well enough with Thor, as it is not that far off your true south sat from your location, but remember that you rotor should be sitting at the Azimuth angle for Thor, for your location. What that means is that the dish should be on Thor, but the rotor shaft should not be in line with the 0 on the scale at the base of the shaft, it should be at the Azimuth angle. Hope that is clear to you. If when you have set the Azimuth angle on the rotor you have lost the signal from Thor, loosen the nuts that hold the rotor to the pole and move the whole rotor very slightly on the pole to find the signal from Thor again.

When you have your dish on BBC World, on Thor, freq 11325H, tweak the dish to get the best signal you can, then it should, providing that you have done the mentioned things, you should be able to find at least the sats with strong signals. I would go to Atlanticbird 2 8W and then try Telstar 15W and then Hispisat 30W. When you have got them send the dish to Sirius 5E, the Eutelsats at 7 and 10E. After that you can try for Hotbird and you should have no trouble getting it at 13E, next try Eutelsat W2 at 16E. Nest on your list should be Astra 1 at 19.2E, it again should be easy to find, as it has a very strong signal. Then go to Astra 2 at 28.2 E, this is the Sly sat and you should have no trouble with the signal from it either. Good luck and keep at it you will soon get there.

Just one thing you must remember is that if you do not have your pole mounted very plumb, then your usals will not be able to find the sats that are to the extreems of the arc, but you should be able to get those close to Thor that have a good signal, i.e. 8 and 15W and 5 and 7E. If you can get those 4 sats and can't get Hotbird, Astra 1 and 2 then your pole might well need to be reset to get it plumb.

Very best regards Wez

No, problem mate, glad to help.

I've been messing with my dishes so much lately ( I have 5 now!), (experimenting) that it has become very straightforward now. I have been trying to get a better signal on the 26E MBC channels, and the same on 7W, I'm on my third dish at the moment.

Hi guys,

I have had a few days now to play around wih my new toy!

I can get all sats east up to, 28.2, then a wall blocks the dish view, might have to get the sledgehammer out!

But as for the west, I can only get 1w, 5w, 8w and 15w. Not sure if I can get anything beyond 15w, view to the west is much clearer than to the east. Should I be getting anymore sats between the ones I listed?

Apart from this, very pleased, loads of football (the main reason I got a system) plus a lot more which im finding out about.

A few mates have been asking how much does it cost, will I install one for them!!

Thanks

No, Well done, sounds good to me.

7W is a bit of a bugger, and can only be got down south, I have managed to get a few of the vertical transponders on there that are watchable.

You should be able to get something of 12.5W too, mostly feeds on there I think, I don't venture round there much.

Are you going to install your mates?

Robbo

All the channels that are on there are obviously on Lyngsat, including showtime, but you can only get the vertical transponders with a tiddly dish. I can't get 7W at the moment as I have been messing about too much, but as I recall there was City TV I think, plus the MBC channels. Can't remember what else.

Ok cheers Robbo

Maybe I was looking at a dead tp, will have another look round it later.

Is there anything of general interest that I will be missing out on, on sats further east than 28.2?

On installing for my mates, yeah why not, at a cost of course

But then again I might look a fool if I cant get it working for them!!
