Howdy all,
I just signed up for Sky (veiwing card only) as I already have a Sky dish set up from the last tenants. The question is do I need a "Sky" branded box or can I use any tuner (like a Technomate 5400 CI+ USB ) that has a card reader? Is it just a case of plugging it all in OR are there going to be other "issues" ? Cheers guys |

You dont need a Sky box, you can use a Dreambox or any of the boxes that read the ftv card.

If you use a Diablo or T-Rex cam you will be able to view the channels from a sky card on a Technomate but you will still need to put it in a Sky receiver once a month to update it Or you can buy a Dreambox ![]() ![]() Nano

kirban do you have any subscription channels on your sky package?
If you do you will need a sky box. Yes a dream box will work on some channels but you still need to put the card into a sky box every other day to keep it alive. also a dream box will cost over £200. a used sky box will cost anything from £5-£45

If its a just a ftv viewing card then it will only need updating very occassionally and that can be done in any sky box. It doesn't need to be a paired box. Only the subscription cards are a problem and they need a paired sky box to update but even then only occassionally. Certainly not every other day.

I think CCcam 2.0.4 upwards will update a Sky card, in the Dreambox although to be honest i just chuck mine in the Sky box about once a month
Come to think about it its about due this evening ![]() It updates even though the card is a subscriber card and its in the wrong box ![]() My original box thatw as paired to the card blew up when my kids filled the interactive slot with coins. Switched it on and it went boom ![]() ![]() Nano

Thanks for all your help..
I have gone the chicken Newbie route and bought a Sky Box .. FOR NOW... I think I will leave that setup the correct way and put another dish up to play around with so the partner does not get upset when she can't watch anything (or I can't watch Prison Break...) Cheers Guys |
