Default Dreambox 500S & All Sky Channels

Hi, I am a total newbie on these recievers and programmes etc.. I don't have a clue where to start and begin. So i am asking you guys to help me with some issues such as;
If i buy a Dreambox can i view all Sky Channels such as MTV, Sky Sports, Movies etc. And what equipment do i need to do this?
Just to state i have a normal Sky box with no subscribed channels, just the free to view ones.
Is there any Idiots Guide or simple step by step tutorial to do this?
I have searched the internet, but haven't found out any information.
Thanks for your time.
Please help me if you can.

You can't get the Sky channels without buying a subscription. Some of the Dream boxes like the the 7020 and 7025 can read and keep alive a Sky card. I'm believe the DM500S can, but since I haven't got a Dreambox, I couldn't tell you how to do it.

Edit:

A quick search on the net revealed the following:-

To get Sky on the 500S, the easiest way is to flash a Gemini image to it, and load CCCam. Everything shoul then work automatically, with a valid activated Sky card.

Hi, robbo, is as usual, right the 500s can and does read and keep alive the Sly card. I have a free to view card in my 7025 just now, but it did have it in the 500s and it worked just great.

You should, however, know that you will not clear any PPV channels unless you have a fully paid up Sly card with that subscription on it. Sly is not hacked, not in the public domain anyway, so in answer to your question, a Dreambox will open everything on Sly, as long as you have a Sly card with the subscription fully paid up.

robbo is also right about the Emu that you should have too. you need the Cccam Emu to open and update the Sly card.

Hope you are not too disspondent at this news.

Very best regards Wez

I cheat!
I got this info from a post by Analoguesat on another forum, and someother poster.

Its not what you know, its knowing where to find out without searching too hard.

Theres also cardsharing of course, but that's a different matter altogether and one that my current equipment is lacking in capability.

shibz, as has been said, you wont get any more from the sky channels with another box than you already get with the sky box.

Having said that, there is considerably more up in the sky that the sky box won't get. With another receiver and a dish that points at other satellites, there are literally thousands of channels available.

First of all you have to find someone willing to share with - (thats the difficult bit). Both of you need to be running Dreamboxes with the same cam (CCCam or the other one )

To be honest seeing as you wrote this:

Hi, I am a total newbie on these recievers and programmes etc

You shouldnt be thinking of DB's & sharing - you need to get a good grounding using non sky boxes first. DB's are not really suitable for complete beginners.

Tell us how then - without using the aforementioned card share method.

And remember we are talking about satellite delivery not cable
