Default TM 5400 CI USB - USB Hard drive help.

Hi, does anyone have any experience with using an external HDD with this receiver, if so which make, model and setup.
will and HDD formatted to FAT32 work.
I want to record movies to it.

Yes I have a 250GB hard drive working fine with the 5400. The box needs it to be formatted to FAT32 otherwise i do not think it will work.

I can only get the hard drive to record FTA channels.

Me too, can only get FTA channels, have I done somthing wrong? I am using fat32 on a portable hdd

bumping this guys, i now have a tm 5300+, i have a 300 gig ext usb drive in ntfs, how can i formate it to fat32 to work with the tm?, and why will it only recored fta?

From memory, XP limits the size you can format to FAT32.
As external, booting from a floppy/CD for WinMe at the DOS level may not have the disk as visible (but would probably format it if it could see it).
I'd reckon to go for Partition Manager or one of those tools to do it.
Linux tools could do it, but you often get warned not to use linux to do the formatting under linux (by linux), as it has a non-msoft view of what is correct.

Why not get the receiver to format it, saves messing around trying to get winblows to format a large drive in FAT32

assuming it a new drive, it will not have a primary partition on it... so, I would plug it into a Windows machine create the partition but DON'T format it. You may have to mark the partition active after this.. plug it into the Receiver and it should then format.

yes sorry its new, ive put it back to ntfs at the mo, if i plug it into my xp laptop, can someone tell me step by step what to do with it pls

i also find this odd.... if i formate it on my vista tower (full format "ntfs") when done it list it as full?, if i do a quick format its all free?, pulling hair out stage mow! lol
