Premiere to swop cards in hacker battle
During the second quarter of the year German pay TV operator Premiere will swop all the outstanding smart cards to better combat piracy of its signal, the company said. The past few months Premiere has been hit hard with several hacks of its encryption system, Nagravision from Kudelski. The company blames certain “imported satellite receivers”, that “criminal hackers” have been able to modify in order to receive protected signals illegally. The new generation smart cards should prevent any new hacks from happening. The pay TV company said there are no plans to switch encryption systems. At year end, Premiere said it has 4,279,000 subscribers, 3,651,000 of which are direct subscriptions and a further 628,000 are subscribed via Unitymedia and Arena.

Thats a hell of a lot of cards to replace
Kudelski my fellow countryman probably is turning in his grave cuz his beloved Nagra had been hacked again ( and I mean it: N3) Last edited by roadrunner; 06-02-08 at 08:17 PM. |

Hi Lads,
Seems that they are not going to go to Nagra 3 then, can't see it taking very long to sort the cards out, after all what can they do that can't be hacked very quickly. Roadrunner, I have read many posts in all sorts of forums that say Nagra3 has been hacked, but have yet to see any evidence of it, so I would not hold my breath waiting for a hack, that is public, soon. We can, however, live in hope and I am quite sure there will be a hack some time, it is just when it comes. Very best regards Wez

Hi robbo,
I did not read the post by Analoguesat right. It did say that they were not changing from Nagra, not that they were not changing to the 3 version. So we have some time left to view Premeri** for frre then, but by that time we might well have the hack. It is late that is my excuse and I am sticking to it. Very best rehards Wez

They are switching to Nagra 3 for the time being. If Unkie Rupie takes them over Id expect them to switch to NDS sooner or later

Yes that basta*d wants everything. At least he will have a battle for the rights of the footy. Apparently NASN or one of those Yank sports channels are looking to out bid him next year, though what it will mean for us is not quite clear. He is even looking at buying Yahoo, though he said he has no intentions yet, he wants to rule the world. I blame the government for allowing him to have the monopoly that he has, it should not be allowed that one outfit has the only satellite service in a country.
Maybe you could please tell me what is involved in fitting and the benefits of using a feed horn? It may well have been you that said I would do well to have one on the 1.2 Channel Master, but I have no idea of how they work. I reckon that they are somne sort of focus for the reflected signals, coming from the dish. Very best regards Wez

I do remember it and what happened to it. That was the fault of the government also, but it would seem that News Corp. can do what it likes and fu*k the rest of us. I never was a fan of Bob, but you got to hand it to him and his family, they have the government in several ountries in their back pockets. I am not that sure how many countries he has in his pocket, but there is here, UK & Ireland, Italy, Brazil and Australia/New Zeland. He has a big say in Fox and God only knows what else he has. I think that he has destroyed the football in the UK also, but he makes some money from it.
I could go on forever, as I am sure you could, but is he worth all this typing, because no matter what we say, it will make no difference at all. Very best regards Wez
