I believe they were made by Fuba, mine came with a ITT Nokia receiver and a Swedish Microwave LNB and seperate feedhorn. (here's the same looking LNB albeit mine was 10Ghz old single band type from 1989)
These were superb dishes that supposedly performed as well as a typical 65cm steel dish. It's nice to see others still using them!

These dishes from Fuba were sold here in Germany at the beginning of the 90s. First, with the letters SAT printed on the surface; later they got the Fuba label.
But I wonder if Fuba was really the manufactor of these fibre glass dishes. The same dishes were used by Grundig and Hirschmann as well. During the early 90s, I saw some of these dishes without any label at all. |

The only reason I thought they were made by Fuba was the instruction manual for assembly had their name on it, of course they may have been re-selling a dish that someone else made perhaps?
Great dish though, still performs really well and looks pretty good for an 18 year old dish. No rust on those metal brackets and so easy to adjust elevation and azimuth with wing nuts and a thumb screw.

It might be possible that Fuba actually is the manufactor of these dishes. Maybe it was a cooperation with Hirschmann. Fuba and Hirschmann are both manufactors of antennas.
By the way, are there still Amstrad mesh dishes from the early days in use? These dishes were sold here as well in the early days of Astra; but most of them disappeared until the end of the 90s. Probably, the steel did not last long. Are Sky dishes made of the same material; maybe even by the same manufactor? |

To stick to the topic: Here are some pictures taken in Bamberg, Germany. Sorry for the bad quality of the first two pictures. There was a river between me and the dishes.
It looks like the dish still got its original LNB. I guess this one was made by IRTE. I wonder towards which satellite is this dish pointing. Apparently, the LNB is as old as the dish itself. Maybe Intelsat at 27,5° West? Last edited by Kay B; 17-06-09 at 04:55 PM. |
