Can you please provide some more information.
What model Echostar receiver do you have? What motor are you using? Which settings are you using to operate your motor? With the Echostar 3000 and 3600, you go into the menu, click on the hammer symbol and set your East/West limits by using the arrow buttons on your remote control. You set the limits to correspond with any obstacles that can damage your dish or to the limits of the motor. You do this by moving it as far East as you can, or need, set the limit, and then do the same with the West settings. |

Your east west limits are how far the dish can go without bashing into something, or for an actuator, when it runs out of travel, whicever comes first.
The way these are set on mine I think, is to go to the limit and press a button in the setup menu on the receiver to set it there. I guiltily have neglected to set them up on my system, but thanks for reminding me. |

Have you connected the wires correctly at the back of the receiver?
If so by going into the receivers menu, clicking on the hammer symbol, and the first satellite dish symbol you can set your East/West limits. Click on East and use your left arrow button on your remote control to move the dish, if the dish moves East then you have the wires correctly positioned, if it moves West then you need to press the right arrow button until your dish is back to where it started then turn off your receiver and change the wires round. Start up your receiver and set your limits. Once you have your East limit set press OK and set your West limit. Once complete you can start tuning in your satellites. You can download the manual, and software, for your receiver here: _http://www.echostareurope.com/support.htm Please post back if you have any problems. |

Hi Bruce,
When you say that when you set the dish to due south and you have a signal what exctly do you mean? Is it that when the actuator is connected and you send it to a satellite, you don't get a signal from that satellite? First thing to do is to set the polar mount fo face due south. Your polar mount should have its elevation set to your latitude, that is how far from the equator you are in Southampton. You should never have to move this setting adn to do so will result in messing your whole set up, your dish will have no chance of following the arc correctly. When you have done that you need to get the actuator and drive the arm out to about half way and then connect it to the polar mount arm, with the bolt and nut, using the spacers to ensure that it is in line. Now you need to slacked the mounting bracket, the one that holds the actuator to the back of the polar mount, this mounting keeps the actuator from moving about when it is pushing or pulling the dish, and slowly move the dish till you get a signal, in your case, from Thor 1W. When you have the best signal tighten the two 1/2 ins nuts and bolts that hold the actuator in place. You will now need to tweak the dish to get best reception. you did not say what dish you have, so it is a wee bit difficult to know what to tell you as to how you would tweak the dish, but if it is a Channel Master, you need to go to the very back of the polar mount and look for a rod, which should be marked with figures, this rod is threaded and has two nuts locking it in place. You will know it because of the locking nuts above and below on the rod. Slacken the two nuts and slowly tilt the dish back and see what this is doing to the signal, if it goes up then use the top nut to tweak the signal to it's best. If, on the other hand the signal does not go up when you tilt the dish back, then tilt it forward till it gets it's best signal, then use the bottom nut to move the dish to get the best reception and tighten the nuts up, keeping an eye on the signal as you do so. I hope this has been of some help to you, but I have to say I ave no experience of your receiver. Very best regards Wez

Hi bruce, Can't say what the dish is, but I can say that it is not a Channel Master for sure. I am, from what I can see in the pic, sure that the dish is not set to the right elevation. the dish seems to be facing downward by the look of it, it should have a slight upward tilt. I am very sorry but that us the best I can offer you, as I would not want to give you wrong advice. I do trust that someone will be able to offer you more and better advice.
Keep trying, it is never easy, but sure that is half the fun. Very best regards Wez
