Nah, for the Free to View card (which has not been totally killed off) you only need to leave the card in the Sly dodgybox for up to 72 hours; no need to call Sly. The only other thing is that if the dodgybox has not been in use for some time a forced software update may be necessary.

I understand it may also be possible to use a dream box to receive the 'keep alive signal' for the card.

Sorry mate, You are incorrect, I have just experienced it along with 2 others, and also Sky themselves say it is so, and I think maybe they know best
P.s the card was in the dodgybox for approx 2 weeks before the phone call was made to sky, we were resigned to only getting a few channels then we get them all within hours of phone call, So I dont care about anything else I know what worked.

Ok lets get some thing straight here

1. You only need to leave the card in a Sky slugbox to get it reactivated. This could take upto 72hrs but it usually reactivates within 12hrs. You do not need to ring Sky.

2. I can't confirm this but i have seen somewhere that the keep alive signal is transmitted on Astra 2D, No idea if it is but your knackered if you can't get Astra 2D

3. The card will reactivate in any Slugbox even if it isn't paired to it.

4. When a Sky card updates it is usually activates certain caids for six or seven weeks as in the picture below. Being off for three weeks would not kill off the card My card was updated in the slugbox on 1st February (SEE BELOW )

5. People at Sky don't know how to use the coffee machine let alone know how they're systems work

6. A moderator is always right

Hi, I am sorry but as I said I am not bothered I know what worked for me, and I cannot understand what all this is for I made a statement which I Know to be fact cos it worked for me, It was for the original request and not for all the other individuals who say do this or do that and that wont work, I thought this was a forum to help others and NOT to try to prove the helpers wrong unless of course they are, I did NOT tell any lies or give any incorrect information I stated EXACTLY what I did and what I was told and Lol IT WORKED which is all I have said, I could understand all this if I had stated a downright lie or given information that was totally incorrect, This in fact makes an individual regret giving ANY information to anyone and I am sure it makes dallasboys regret asking for help cos it would me.

The bits with at the end of it is meant to be light hearted and not to be taken seriously

You only need to contact Sky if your card is totally dead and refuses to update. Its usually after the card has been off for more than 12 months

I am aware of what it means etc, But I am afraid I cannot see the point of all this, Did I make an incorrect statement = No, Did I Lie = No, was I wrong in what I said = No.

I went to Greece with an old Sky box and my old card which I used to have in the UK in a Sky+ box, I couldnt take the Sky+ box as it would be no good to me so I left it with my son in the UK, When I got to Greece I telephoned a Sat engineer and asked about a Dish, He had a second hand one that he installed for 275 euro which is a Hi Tec brand, I then purchased a motor for 150 euro and he fitted it all up, I attached my Sky box and put in my card and I got some Channels, BBc1 BBC2 and a couple more, We could not get Channel 4 or Channel 5 and maybe more I do not know, after about 2 weeks we were made aware of an ex pat who supplied Sky and installed satellites locally so we telephoned him, He came around and told us that we would need to telephone Sky to get the other channels which I did, They asked me for the card No and the Stb No and about three hours later we had all the FTV Channels including Channel 4 and Channel 5 and also five+1 and five life and five life+1, This did not cost me anything, These are the comments I made and then I get everybody telling me that I could get it just by putting it in a sky box which I knew I couldnt as I had already tried that, So I am not proffesing to be an expert or that I am connected to satellite installation in any way shape or form as I am not, I am a retired person living in Greece, when I saw another person wanting to know basically the same as I did when I moved here I responded by telling him what I had learned and now I deeply wish I hadn't

Sorry Mate, You are incorrect.

If you can't take a bit of light-hearted banter, you shouldn't post on forums.
We are here to help eachother, and occasionally there will be minor disagreements, but this is par for the course, and there is no need to take it personally. A or is worth a thousand words.
