Hi all,
After a few hours of fiddling, scratching of head, effing and cursing I managed to to get some signals. Just a couple of questions regarding Signal strength and quality. First off my equipment is a Fortec Star Lifetime II and 90cm dish. I'm located in Hampshire. First sat I managed to receive was 1W, on the Gospel channel, my readings were: S =91, Q=61. Second sat was something on 10772H but was encrypted so I'm guessing this one of the sats at 19.2E. S=94, Q=71 Third sat was at 28.2E. BBC News 24 on 10772H was S=97, Q=81. What are others getting in regards to Signal and Quality readings? Thanks for any replies. Mark |

Hi Berus, those figures sound good. Each receiver will give different readings so its not worth trying to compare results with others.
If you are getting a signal anywhere above 60% you are probably able to get a good picture without pixellating. The proof of the pudding is always the picture quality. The electronic settings for the signal measurement vary considerably and are only a guide and not a definite value.

After a while you will get to know what the threshold for your receiver is, as different models/makes will vary. On mine for example, I know that if my quality is 65-66% I'm just on the limit, anything below that I get picture breakup and loss.
If you wack you dish off course a little you would be able to establish what the figure is for your receiver. Robbo

Hi on my dreambox 500s, I will not get a picture if my value falls below 73%. On the dreambox 7025 it is different, I have not got my dish right yet for the 7025, I have got it on a different dish to the 500s.
As robbo says it is just a means of getting a grasps of how your dish is lined up with the sat, it should only be looked on as an aid to setting up your dish for best reception. Keep going and you will get there in the end. By the sounds of it your dish need to be better set on Thor 1W. Very best regards Wez
