Default laptop woes................

I have a compaq v6000 laptop,

the wireless lan went down, so went away for repair (note this is all that didnt work)

it came back to my suprise with a new H/D ! the old one was inclosed in the packaging, turned it on, and no operating system! now as most of you will know, you get a partion on the drive to create recovery disks, i had done that, but these wont work, i assume there locked to the drive that created them? (old one), i tried the ols drive and it wont boot? (was fine)

i have a vista upgrade cd, that i loaded on, and all works, but i want xp mce back, anybody have any options apart from buying the O/S i shoild have anyway?

Contact the company and explain the situation to them, they should send out an OEM version of XP to you at least.
The old hard drive was probably returned to allow you to retrieve any files but I'm amazed that they never put an operating system on the new hard drive.
Was the laptop returned to the manufacturers for repair or did you use a third party?

it was a 3rd party plan, was a pc world laptop, now on there extended repair plan, its 14 months old, hence the vista upgrade cd i have, but i dont like using it on the laptop as some simple things are missing like on screen volume bar. ive had trouble getting through to them, but will try again soon.
