Default service unknown?

hi i have had 2008max v box for the last 3 months everything working well except for a pit of freezing on lower no channels at first.

in the last few days a number of channels inc all sky sports, nat geo,and all disc have been replaced with "service unknown" not to sure what to start doing ie powerscan?

Looks as if you are beginning to have some signal problems for some reason and a booster might be required perhaps, dont mean the software one but one as sold by Argos in their catalogue ....I would first try to do an update channels first though as opposed to a power scan at least that way you would keep the channels you have ....

telecom69,

I too have the same problem.
What causes this problem? I've never had a problem with cable until now. A lot of my channels too (All Sky Sports and Sky Movies) display "NO SIGNAL" or "Service Unknown".

Does a booster definetly solve the problem?

Well boosters have been known to solve this problem before, especially if you are not a subscribing member to Virgin, and if you are not, then anything coming down that cable feed is a gift and can dissapear at anytime,it is after all a redundant cable...if however you are a sub member then this shouldnt happen, but then again strange things happen in the innards of the Eurovox and channels sometimes get moved and reappear under headings such as TVch whatever ....also local conditions at the time can play havoc sometimes with signal problems that are weak, for whatever reason ....there are no guarantees that a booster will cure the problem, but its a way to try ....In your case since you have lost all the best channels so to speak, you could always erase all data and do a power scan again with the cable direct to the Eurovox before any splitters in case they are degrading the signal a bit.....

I had the very same problem this week. Sky Sports, Sky Movies and Nat Geo all off. I went to user installation and pressed "update channels" (red on mine). This solved the problem for me.

Same here... Red button sorted it :-)
Just checking through all the channels added at the end and there's a CH1 showing an episode of Lost.. Any idea what channel that is?

Yes the channel showing lost is most likely VoD channel and someone in your area as ordered it, once they stop watching you will lose it and get "service unknown". I would then delete that channel and then do an autoscan to see what else others may be watching. I watched Transformers the other day start to finish, it just depends on when you do the scan and who is watching what.

Thanks - was just making sure it wasn't Sky 1 on its way back...
I don't like re-scanning too often because you lose channel names that you've edited.
