Modem can't connect! - Techwatch: Satellite TV forums, FTA, Cable, Hardware, & Tech forums

Hey all, I have a big problem.

I am with Virgin Broadband and i have a Motorola SURFboard SB5100 Cable Modem. Problem is, when I connect it to my computer with the usb cable it works fine but I want to go online with my PS3 and need a wireless router which needs to connect by ethernet. But when i connect my modem to my computer with an ethernet cable it doesn't have my modem in the list of Network Connection's. All the lights on my modem are how they are supposed to be but my computer just can't find the modem. Tried phoning virgin but they were no help as usual! Well thanks for reading and i hope someone can help me.

Your Computer will probably list it as "Local Area Connection" Make sure that connection is set to automatically obtain settings - don't forget to re-boot the modem after changing it's connection from one device to another or from USB to Ethernet.
