my last idiots question for today do you need to update a softcam and a patch seperately, or does the patch contain both or vica versa

They are separate, but the patch might already contain an out of date softcam, I'm not sure.

you will need both once you load the patch, then you will need to input the latest keys to open the channels this is where a softcam file comes in as it updates all the key lines or you can just type in the keys by remote

the softcam is easier for beginners as it will insert the correct key to the correct place
