i see on the forum people mention 5 w what does this mean. where is this? on a compass 5 degrees is towards east.
This is what i think it is, am i right or confused. ![]() 5 w is 5 degrees west of 180 degrees and 19 e is 19 degrees east of 180 degrees. |

It's an orbital location - directly above 5 degrees west longitude, 0 degrees latitude (the Equator)

5w is 5 degrees west of 0 longitude, 19E is 19 degrees east of it.
All the satellites are approx 22,000 miles above the equator in a geo-staionary orbit. BTW Lincsat has his lat and longs confused. ![]() Robbo ![]()

thanks got confused with compass bearings. what i suppose i need to know is how far will my motorised system actually rotate (when i get one still learning) i want to get into the illegal channels, footy and other sports and maybe some adult entertainment.

An H-H motor will rotate to approx 70 degrees either way. But the further towards the extremes it turns the lower the elevation of the satellites, so it is more difficult to get clear line of site.
Assume to start off with on getting 42E to 30W, without too much trouble. |
