has anyone wondered what is going to happen to the old 525 lines non digital service. and why the change over to digital. the second question first MONEY! the govt will make millions of pounds annually from the revenue it makes selling off the frequencies for licences.. ie taxi services, mobile operaters, etc etc. the first question read above. it was all down to a money makeing cash cow. some of the frequncies will go to the public domain ie amateur radio / remote controls for model aircraft. probably within a 10 year period the govt could make well over a billion pounds from this little enterprise. offcourse the govt will make a huge profit on VAT from the public buying new equipment . not bad eh ! thats what i call a nice little earner. that will pay for there pensions of overpaid politicans and civil servants too.

525 lines is the American standard. We use 625 lines for standard def, and we scrapped VHF 405 lines in the early 1980's
