Default Cable Wiring Help

Hi all

I have just bought "The Box" which I believe is Starview 2???

I am currently signed up to 20mb broadband only with v*rgin. The problem I have is that the internet is in my room and I want to set up the box downstairs. There is a brown box outside my house which runs up the wall to my bedroom. I'd ideally not like to put a splitter on the white box that the internet is connected to in my room to avoid having cables coming through my ceiling.

Is the anyway I can put a cable/splitter directly from the brown external box in to my living room? The only way I can think of is getting v*gin out to install the tv where i want it and then cancel the tv service a week or so later but scared they'll get suspicious ha!

Any help/advice would be appreciated

Kev

Have you got a V phone service? You can get their minimum subscription for 99p a month - the cable they'll run is worth the £12 you'll pay over the year.

I've just checked their website and it says £11 per month for a phone line. Aren't the connections on a phone socket different too?

Yeah, sorry, I was just going to say if you already have a phone line installed, they'll install the TV for you too. In your case, if they install the TV for you, they'll install phone too (it is a different connector, but V always bundle them together), and you'll be tied in for 12 months (which you probably don't want!).

No reason why you can't run a second cable from the brown box - I think there's a break in the cable there, but if not you'll need to cut and crimp the wire and cover it in something to waterproof it.

look inside the brown box and see if there is a splitter, if so you can replace it with another 3 or 4 way, u can then drill hole in the wall and pass cable through, or u can split the signal in your room upstairs before it goes into the modem and run a cable downstairs through ceiling or outside wall.
