Default the bigger the better?

do you pick your cameras based on quality or does the size of it matter a lot now too? apparently everyone wnats the really small slim /slick looking cameras now but i cant imagine that they would be able to zoom and make as good pictures as a big camera with really good zooming/focusing capabilities. any thoughts?

I look for both, quality and size. I try to take the average so the one i buy should have good quality as well as medium size.

It has to be a combo of both. I sure don't want something too small either..

I want quality in a camera so I would rather go with a bigger camera if a smaller one would mean a loss in quality.

thats the way i think of it. Besides, you usually cant set different controls on a small camera that you would be able to on a bigger one.

I like the more compact cameras, cause i personally tend to break bigger things easily. lol

i think it depends on what you wanna do with it. if youre taking pics of your friends and stuff like that then i dont think you need zoom and really good stuff and that being small and portable and sleek is the way to go.

if youre into photography and take pics for a living or its a serious hobby then you should get a camera that has some really good focus and zoom lens with better flash to get the most quality out of it.

thanks for all the replies though, i did a little research myself and went to play with a few cameras at the stores before i came to realize that it just depends on what you wanna do with it

I picked my canon elph for its small size AND that it had a good resolution as well as a heavy metal casing (so I didnt break it when i dropped it)

I have found that there was no one camera that suited my needs and now have 3 for different situations- 2 compacts and a dSLR

My first compact dimage z1 has a great zoom and is great as a second outdoor camera, can't focus in low light though

My other compact Kodak c875 doesn't have a viewfinder so is awful outdoors in strong light but is pocket size, focus assist and very quick on shutter lag

My dSLR is my favourite- Nikon d50 as it has more creative control
