Gav99, funnily enough I was at a motorhome show yesterday and looked briefly at a couple of these beasties. They were over a grand just for the dish!

Perhaps you'd get more info from a motorhome site. I'm told that a very well used one is Motorhome Facts.

Do report back if you find a cheaper solution for the dish because I'm very interested in this topic myself.

Comag/Silvercrest SL65/12 receivers run off 12V, are cheap and usually patchable so that some footie can be watched for free. But it's a bit techy and requires regular access to the internet to maintain the patch.

Judging by the date of your post solunauk that would have been the SECC in Glasgow? I was there the following day and had a look at the fully automatic dish for motorhomes on show (Oyster £1600 or £1800?). For £600 (fitted) I have an Maxview Omnisat semitronic on my motorhome. I think I'm right in saying that the only major difference is that I have to twist the pole in the wardrobe to locate a satellite - the elevation is set automatically. For £1000-£1200 difference I can live with that!!!

Hi BothyBhoy,

No, not Glasgow but the NEC - Outdoors Boat and Caravan show - massive! Took us all afternoon just to view the motorhomes hall. We don't have one yet but plan to spend a lot of time next year travelling around Europe.

That dish you've got sounds good, and quite a saving as you say. Did you fit it yourself? I'm not so sure about drilling holes in the roof of a motorhome!

lol, misread the date, it was 8th Feb I was at Glasgow. I had the dish fitted by local caravan/motorhome dealer who I bought the dish from. The Maxview site have them priced at £472 but I'm sure the dealer was selling them for less. I've read on Motorhome Facts forum of people fitting them themselves but I left it to the pros. There are other options from Maxview - manual roof fitted or the portable kit which you mount on a tripod outside the van.
Welcome To Maxview Online

Thanks for the link.

Satcure seem to be selling them for 325 quid - same price as the manual crank job - maybe some mistake. Actually 325 seems expensive for manual.
