Just reached St George, Utah and it's 109f - FFS, that's hot. So I'm looking forward to a bit of rain, but not as much as you've had to endure this summer.

Howdy
![]() I've a question to ask :- I want to take up fishing (prob next year now) as the missus reckons I need to get out more. ![]() I want to start off with fishing the local fishponds/farms and then progress to river fishing for trout, both with bait and flies, and then to salmon. I would like some advice on what tackle ie. rods, reels, starter kits available and the likes. ![]() Bought some books and done some reading, looked around fleabay and been to fishing centres etc. Got a rough idea but would like a wee bit more advice before I take the plunge so to speak. Regards

Hi mate, to start with get a spinning rod for general bait and spinning, around 8ft-9ft. Not too heavy for trout fishing, sheakspere, or diawia are good. Get advice in local angling shops, then price them on ebay. For fly gear, talk to anglers on your local rivers and lakes, most anglers are more than happy to help out. Its hard to learn from books.I have bought a lot of fishing gear on ebay with no problems, stick with the99% to ioo% sellers. cheers billy

Thanks Wasp.
![]() I've been to the big outdoor camping store near glasgow, which have a fishing section. They had loads of stuff to rummage through. Saw some shakespeare equipment. I'll have another trip in ther methinks. Got a few months to decide, as Santa's gifts are fishing equipment this year. Regards
