I think that if I had tried to get a white 90cm dish on the front of the house I would have no chance.
I have just about got away with a black one. It's still early days though.

Some dishes have better "pulling power" than others, like most other things in life, you get what you pay for. I have a steel 90Cm X 110Cm dish and it is quite good, but there are many other dishes which would be better than it is. The best dishes for general use would be the channels master variants. You can have prime focus dishes, which, as the name implies, focus the signal to the LNB. You might just get a better reception by changing your LNB for a lower number version, you would fit a LNB with a 0.2 ratio rating instead of a 0.3 one. Then again you get LNBs which are better than others, Some of the others would be better qualified then me to advise you on which LNB would be best, I have a 0.2 on the 90CM dish and a twin 0.2 on the 1.2 Mtr Channel Master. Very best regards Wez

The cheaper dishes are not as good as the expensive ones for professional use, mainly because of how accurately they are made.
Also you have the gregorian offset dishes which are more efficient. Do you have a matched feedhorn for your CM kerrywez?

I don't robbo, but I am getting a bigger dish from a friend, don't know what it is yet, but it is not a CM. It looks about 1.8Mtr, but might be bigger, it is a while since I saw it, but he did have it motorised so it will have some sort of polar mount on it and he said that my 36" Super Jack, which he has, would do to drive it. As far as I can remember the dish is a prime focus one. He phoned me yesterday, but I was out and he hs gone to some hotel, in Killarney, today sorting their satellite so I will see him tomorrow and have a good look t the dish and let you know what it is. I have a feeling that I will need a new LNB for it, because he used it for the old D1Mac and that would not have been a universal LNB.
Very best regards Wez

Thanks robbo, I will know better tomorrow what the situation is. I reckon that I will get away with the ground stand for the 1.2 and even if the polar mount is for a 4" pole I can get it sorted, because my landlord has a metalwork shop and it will be no bother for him to wield a bigger pole on for me.
Very best regards Wez

My question about the dish was directed at the quality , but as usual you have covered everything in your answers . I dont have the best equipment , in fact its low budget but works extremly well. I hope to get out this Saturday buy a few bits and be watching from 3/4 different satellites on sunday . This is if all goes well , and you guys are online of course . ![]() If I am looking at : Astra 19.2 E Astra 28.0 E Hotbird Which one has the weakest signal ? and where can I find this information ? Thanks for the advice guy's . Fred |

Hi fred, They have all got very good, powerful signals and you will have no problem picking them up anywhere in the UK or Ireland.
Which way are you going to go about receiving them? Is it to be motorised or multifeed? Good luck and you will not need anything too expensive to pick up the three birds that you mentioned. We shall help you all we can, but I am sure you will be OK, but you have the best sta help place on the net here. Very best regards Wez

Hi Wez ,
I actually live in Holland ,I am English . I will try a multifeed for 3 LNB . Today I bought 2 x Silver tech LNB,s 0.2dB and a 4x1 High ISO DiSEqC switch ( make Maximum ). Also a 3 LNB multifeeder . I am trying to figure out how this multifeeder works , The LNB on the dish now stays where it is and you connect this multifeeder to it . This then allows you to have one LNB each side. The question i am asking myself is what do I move to pick up the new Satellites the dish or thr LNB's . Seems a little trivial but never done this before so any advice is much appreciated. Thanks , Fred. |
