english t.v in Austria

Hello all,
i am new to this site and satellite t.v so please bear with me as i am a total novice!! firstly i must say great site, my questions start!! I have bought a comag Sl65 with the Ali B1 chip in it my friend in Spain has an earlier comag and has it patched and says he can get all kinds of english t.v, so my question is from a total novice point of view how do i do this!! and where would i point my dish, and if i can do this what channels would i receive with english on them!! sorry for all the questions but any light shed on this would be great,

If you want predominantly English channels then you should point your dish at Astra 28E. In Austria you should be able to pick up a lot of Free To Air (FTA) English channels like BBC and ITV, but not Ch4, Ch5 or Sky. Patching the box will not get you any more channels on 28E so it's not worth doing it for that.

Thanks for the replies, newbie mistake! yes i already have my dish pointed at 28e and do receive some channels but mainly the low user ones!! as the dish is only 90cm and i need a 150! to get bbc here in Salzburg so my real question would be can i receive the likes of premier which i believe have the choice of english if the programmes original language is english! and any futher help on what i need to do to patch it would be great as i am a little confused by the jargon e.t.c,

Yes, many Premiere-shown films made in the English language have an English soundtrack option but by no means all. It's pretty much guaranteed on Premiere 1-4 and Pr Direkt, but on Filmclassics and others it can be very haphazard. Most non-film programmes such as Discovery and Anímal Planet do not have English audio. There are news channels etc in English on the same satellite (19.2E), but nowhere near the range of English programming that is on 28E.

If you want to pursue this further then I would highly recommend that you visit the forums at satboard dot uk dot to where there is more specialist advice on the latest techiniques for 'adapting' your SL65. We're all very happy to help you here, but there you will find a lot more info readily to hand and save us writing it out all again!
