Default Liberty FTA 1000/BNIB reciever

i am looking at buying this reciever for FTA/FTV channels on 28.3 28.5 Astra 2 and Eurobird s is this worth buying or am i wasting my time and better off buying a second hand Sky pace /amstrad reciever instead. or is £29 a waste of money

In my opinion you would be better of getting a second hand Sly box of ebay. You will not get the proper EPG with any box other than a Sly box, all you will get will bea now and next EPG. I know nothing about the box you are considering buying, but has it got a slot for the FTV card, if not then you will not have any chance of receiving Ch 4 or any of the Five channels. At a price of £29 I cannot see the box having any software in it that would allow it to read a Sly FTV card anyway. My Dreamboxes will not read, or update, a FTV card unless I have Cccam running as my EMU.

In a word get a second hand Sly box. Remember you will need a FTV card for the Ch4 channels and the Five channels and for Sly 3.

For the FTV channels on 28E a Sky Sluggibox is the easiest way.

The downside is that you have put up with pages and pages and pages of epg stuff that you can't actually watch (without subscribing), with an annoying message coming up every time you select a subscription channel, it doesn't even grey them out or anything.

With a FTA box like you suggested you can put the channels in whatever order you like, and only have the FTA channels listed.

Since I get ch4,ch5 etc from cable and Terrestrial TV, I much prefer an FTA box over a Sky box any day, and when CH4's contract with Sly ends later this year it is expected that ch4 will be FTA also.

Also with the FTA box, you would be able to pick up other satellites, if you motorised the dish.

By the way , I have both

i have a cunning plan ??? i have a sky standard box connected to a dish. but also have a spare dish which will be connected to another reciever. its just a question what that reciever will be. I am only interested in the FTA/FTV channels and FREESAT at some point soon. prob HD. In the meantime its a cheap way of watching one program while recording another. Again its been suggested i get a second hand sky reciever for this. So a question of best value for money. By the way there is a more expensive model of the Liberty FTA 2500 / that has at least one card slot. priced at around £75.
I gather they offer this model with a 6 months footie (6 channels).not interested in the footie myself.

The FTA box I think, since you have a Sky box already for the FTV channels, as you would need to buy another card for £20 anyway for the FTV channels on the 2nd receiver.

rumour has it robbo ! that sky are going to stop the £20 card. when FREESAT starts as it does not make them any money. This makes sense esp as they want peps to go onto There HD service. Anyway once i have sorted out things regarding the cable i have just bought for the other dish. it does help if the craft knife was not blunt. isnt strange yu can never find one tool out of a collection of 100s of tools. three stanley knives and two of them blunt the third is hiding somewhere.

I think we all been there when it comes to tool boxes.

when, if, they stop issuing the FTV cards do you think they will also stop the updates for the ones already in use robbo? The FTV card is my only way to watch Ch4, Five and, not that I watch it, Sly3.

Very best regards Wez
