Default virgin media installation - how was it for you? what can i expect?

hi,

am new to the forum, and will be new to cable (virgin media) from saturday, and was interested in hearing people's installation experiences (good and bad), and if there is any advice people may have to give ahead of the installation happening.

or anything i might need to bear in mind when the engineers are here. nb am also having VM broadband and phone packages too.

i am also going to be using a eurovox, and have read quite a bit in those threads.

thanks in advance.

cheers
pablo

Just tuck the Eurovox out of sight until the installation is complete.

absolutely, thanks. am also going to get a splitter so that my VM box is in use after the installation and therefore not detected as being inactive.

cheers,
pablo

one thing id add, is u tell them were u want the cabling to go, dont let them dictate because they will always take the easy option and bulldoze there way into ur abode.

the installation is happening tomorrow. i will post my experience afterwards.

however, has been a bad start with my eurovox, as it was delivered yesterday in a pretty bad/damaged state (bought it on ebay). so am now waiting for a replacement box.

cheers

hi

as promised, here's how it went for me.

last week i had received my eurovox via ebay. however, came in a really shoddy state, bottom was dented/pushed in, front panel retaining clip was broken so would not close, and when you turned the unit over (ie to look underneath) something was rattling loose inside. however, i reported to the vendor and has sent me a replacement without any fuss (phew).

as for the VM installation, the engineers came very prompt on saturday morning (i was the first of the day), they were pleasant enough. luckily for me, no drilling was required and tv/brodband and phone were set up and running within 2 hours.

all in all a painless experience.

with my replacement eurovox (a plug and play one), i connected it, switched it on, followed the instructions provided by the ebay vendor. power scan picked up all channels.

however, i kept getting a message on the non-free channels saying "please wait, updating code". this was worrying, but i searched this forum, and found out that if you went to a premium channel eg sky sports 1, waited for a moment, and then the channel appears and so do all the others - many thanks techstat forum.

so again, overall, a good experience for me.

interestingly, the picture quality is a lot better than the VM box (plus true widescreen).

all i need to do now though is set up a splitter and re-connect my VM box to avoid any calls at the house.

cheers
pablo

Nice one, you should have widescreen on vm box you have to set it in the menu, interesting you say eurovox picture quality is better, is it a samsung v box theyve given you ?
