Default Re: Do I need DUE SOUTH satellite for Motorised dish set up?

The 12054 resolving to CNN must be 12054V on 28e (Astra 2); trick I've heard of is to use something like 25.5 for the 26e satellite to avoid the Astra2 swamping.

Yeah, looks like it Chris. You are picking up the wrong satellite. Another trick is to position the dish using one of the transponders that doesn't exist on 28.2 E.
11862V rings a bell, I think that was one I used for my fixed dish before the wind blew it over.

I understand that other strong transponders on Badr4 are 11938V 27500 and 12524H 27500.

Out of curiosity, just been out to look at the angle on the motor. When it tracks to Thor it is just off south (about 2d) but for Astra2 it moves to beyond 30d (using USALS for my location) Does this make sense?

Chris

Yep, that sounds about right, as you are 2 degrees odd west. It has to go a bit further, than if you were at the Greenwich meridian (0 longitude)

Had another go tonight, managed to get KBS for a few seconds, tho I did notice a $ sign on the screen, somehow my USALS reverted back to factory settings, so it thought I was in Germany. Everything went potty (on my porty) as I tried to fine tune with other satellites.

My wife was missing one of her Korean progs, so I had to get it back to Hotbird as quick as I could. I'll have another go in the mornign while she's out...

Robbo, did you manage to get KBS as FTA?

Chris

Yes, I did
I will add a screen shot in a few minutes.

Looks like a reasonably strong transponder as expected.

Notice my sat position in the second picture.

Oh the joys of undocumentred features!! I was usings USALS for Arabsat, went into FINE tuning and nudged WEST till I found a signal, but every time I came out of the menu, the sat moved back to the USALS position, even tho I tried to SAVE this position. Finally realised I could choose DISeQc for this satellite on its own, nudged WEST, saved position and hey presto, Syrian TV, quick sat search found KBS world and now my wife is happy.

Chris

PS She's just poked her head through the door and said it's getting 'interference'. Better go chack it out...

You are lucky, my receiver doesn't allow you to use USALS on some satellites and Diseqc1.2 on others. That is why I edit the satellite position, so I can still use USALS.
