Well, with satellite you get a lot more channels (Thousands instead of 200/300). You also get the option to have different regional programmes from providers like BBC and ITV.
A combination of cable and sat is good.

I have cable and satellite. ![]() I never watch cable, I just have it for Nick junior for the kids and channel 5. But since I only pay £1 extra for the TV, I'm not bothered. Other than that cable is pants compared to satellite. The choice of channels is far too limited. Although sports fans may like it, as it has sentanta sports included in the XL package. |

Sounds OK to me.
![]() Although above roof level is only necessary if you need to overcome an obstruction. If the dish can 'see' the satellite lower down, it would be a better option as far as wind loading and access is concerned. Which way does the wall face? Robbo ![]() |

The front of the house is roughly SSW
ideal but then there is the wife factor no dish on the front of the house in the back garden i have a large house to the east with a hangar which probably is in the way I shall check again, is there a simple rule for the possitioning of the dish, i know it has to be just east of south. how far from a building? |

There isn't a simple rule.
Use dishpointer to get you elevation and azimuth angle. Once you have those make sure there are no obstructions above this angle. I think dish pointer has a calculator for this. If not the elevation angle for an obstacle of height Y and distance X :- Angle= inverseTan (Y/X). Robbo ![]() |

I would go for the 1m dish and the Dream Multimedias new DM800 box which allows you to install a hard disc for recording and is also supposed to be HD compatible.

wait until the FREESAT boxes come out at least yu have a EPG with the freesat and the HD boxes with HDD should be around £150 or less.( with a 1 metre dish so yu wont need to upgrade the dish) offcourse yu could go for a motorised system but its a very large outlay. If you do go and buy any reciever and dish system to be future proof yu need HD.
