I was wondering if someone could help me out getting this to work, and really new to the dbox2 have only had it a month, have read an article over at digital worldz and they talk a lot about it and it does sound like something good, but am confused as to what timers are and how to set them up, have created what I think is an epgfiler.xml file and uploaded it to my box, but dont know how to find out if what I have done is correct or not.
the PVR_EPG channel says channel doesn't exist or not a valid channel or something like that when I try to view it, i'm using the commando 9.25 image if thats any help. |

The PVR_EPG channel will say that, don't worry about it. I'm not sure if Commando has the 7 Day epg, I don't think it does. You should get 3 days on there at least.
If the epgfilter.xml is correct you will only get now/next programs listed for that channel. Look at the programme guide for a channel in the epgfilter and see if you get more than now & next listed.

Hi thank you for the reply I think I may have it working, am going to check tomorrow morning.
I have copied the timers that PaphosAL uses for his 7 days EPG, but I understand I may only get 3 days I think that would be enough to see just exactly what it is this epgfilter.xml does as i'm still not 100% sure. I made a junk bouquet and used it for my epgfilter.xml file. I have left my box with power for tonight whilst am asleep but I wasn't sure if I was to shut it down, leave it on standby or just leave it on, so I have left it on completely. If I have the timers set up I guess I have to leave the box with some power but can I put it in standby ? |

Hi I just checked the EPG now and am getting 3 days as you mentioned, seems good, if I wanted a full 7 days do I have to change my image then ? Is it possible to get more than 7 days ? dont really need it just was curious.
Whats the benefit of all the different images ? dont they all just do the same thing in a roundabout sort of way ? |

All images are based on the CVS (which is a base image) They then have different bits added to suit the image creator. The last image I released was compressed to allow more to be included in it.
With your image, you can add the 7 day EPG by copying a file over to the box, you do need some skill as you will need to stop the application running first. You may also find that with the correct standby.on and standby.off files that the box will switch to the PVR_EPG channel on standby and return to the previous channel on restart. The 7 Day EPG file (sectionsd) is available on DW with the instructions on how to install it. We have found on testing that 10 Minutes is usually sufficient to populate the full 7 day EPG.

I have a "Long EPG.rar" file which has sectionsd, pzapit, standby.on, standby.off.
But am unable to ftp them to the /bin directory of my image where those files are currently, have uploaded them to the /var/bin directory but they dont seem to do anything there still get only 3 days EPG. I did telnet into the box and tried "killall -9 sectionsd" but still was unable to over the sectionsd file, not sure what I need to do to overwrite these files, or am I not able to at all with the commando 9.25 image ? I am sort of expecting that to be the case. |

You kill the sectionsd first, then with a FTP client like Flashfxp you can copy the sectionsd over to the D-box. If you tried that what error message did you get?
You shouldn't need any of the other files to get the 7 day EPG working. The standby files go in /var/tuxbox/config and they are for switching the box to the pvr_epg channel on standby

Yeah thats what I did, but have tried it again.
I ran "telnet <ip address>", then logged into the box, typed in the username (dbox) and password (commando), and got the command prompt. I typed in killall -9 sectionsd, and did it again just to be sure and it said "no process killed" But when I ftp'ed into the dbox it said "Delete operation failed" when I tried to delete the file, and got the message "Copying files to remote side failed. Could not create file." when I tried to overwrite it. I dont think commando intended for people to be able to replace the sectionsd file, will go ask on there forum :-) Last edited by Rincewind; 10-03-08 at 12:04 PM. |

Have you tried cd /bin before the killall command, that should put you into the correct directory.
