I tried various things along the lines of what you suggested, but no luck.

However, they seemed to open themselves later. Maybe, as you said, they happened to change their settings and it then fell in line with what the softcam was currently providing for the Polsat group.
Today's softcam (from satpimps although I see various sites offer what seem to be the same) seems to have the same success.
That site also has a new 'firmware' release, which I loaded.

yes quite a few people do the softcams on the sites as they are easy to update, i used to update one on my pc and upload to my receiver but i don't bother now as i have a diablo cam

I don't really have any idea what the firmware updates achieve. This one just carries a note saying 'Updated Channel list', although I don't know what that means.

The diablo cam - does that somehow automatically update the keys for you?

no the diablo cam opens channels on 1west and digitalb on 16east, i just use it as its easier for me to update the software and keys in one go

i've seen the updated firmware it auto updates premiere on 19east

the updated channel list is just exactly that an updated channel list but you can do that anyway by using blind scan function

I think, as you said earlier, quite a lot is open using the softcam releases or Grantor's clever Vantage Maker (which I've now discovered).
I am however still struggling to get my head round how to open other channels such as MCT or Sexview using BISS keys. If indeed it is possible. I've tried to read up on what BISS keys are but so far I've failed to grasp the issue.
Somebody kindly gave me some help here (Alsat, login needed) but I'm still at a loss.
I also don't understand why, if other channels are openable using these 'BISS' keys, why aren't they included in the softcam releases.

biss keys are included in the softcam releases, you need to open the softcam file with a program like key editor and in the bottom left hand corner select biss from the drop down menu to display the entered biss codes in the softcam file

Thanks, yes, I've looked in the softcam releases and there don't seem to be any keys there for MCT or Sexview. I can only assume they are not openable in the Vantage for some reason. I think I saw on the internet though that they were openable in June, so I don't know if these things can come and go.

The advice I was given on the other site was as follows, but I don't really have enough there to understand if fully.

The other channels MCT i think require you to enter the codes much the same way as Biss I just use the biss codes up to 60 can be stored on the Vantage X2 series I found that most of the Vantage Biss keys are for Ku & C band channels on the other side of the world so I have deleted them & added the one's I can receive,so long as you enter 001fff then the video pids followed by the frequency with a 0 in front of all frequencies & key 08 for each Biss selection position number 1 to 60 or A1- A2 ect it is up to you.once you enter the Biss keys for a channel if you wipe out your channel list as i do when I rescan the Vantage will remember so you will not have to confirm.

Would appreciate any help / comment /advice.

I want to update the 2007 Firmware in my Vantage X221TS receiver, and I have followed Wod's instructions in the message dated 08-03-08.

I have bought a "female+female null modem cable" (175 cm) and a "male+USB serial-to-USB converter cable" (100 cm) to be able to connect the receiver to my laptop.
I have downloaded the Firmware + Settings Editor (Channel Editor) and installed as Wod instructs.

When I click on the Up button and "browse to file on desktop" (063AOP.dlp), I hit a problem. I get the error message "Can not open COM2" (or whichever COM port I select via the "RS 232" button). And no upload of software takes place.

I am assuming there is a problem with my cabling/setup. Is there a test I can make to check my setup? And if the hardware is faulty, where can I go and get better hardware (I bought these cables from Amazon).

Any advice gratefully received.

Addition:

Went into Control Panel, and discovered that the Serial port was trying to access "COM26", changed this to COM2 - and made a little bit more progress.

Reached the "Click on Open, then switch on receiver ..." stage but after a few seconds got the error message "Communication timeout".

Still no upload of update software ...

Eventually managed to upload latest firmware (September 2009) by switching to another computer - Netbook as opposed to Laptop.

Now the problem is patching. Have found Winup 2.6 and the latest Patch but (using the same cabling) the Vantage appears to accept the software upload (counts all the way to 100%) ... then proceeds to boot ... never finishes booting, even though I leave it to itself for more than five hours ... display shows "4444" and freezes.
