Default The Box PVR - from the top

Hello all, appologies if I put anything on here that is frowned upon, please correct me if I do so.

FACTS
I have just brought The Box PVR and I currently have Tinternet through V*in but no TV package. Software is E_Ver 4.506, 15 Oct 2007. I am based in Cheltenham (Gloucestershire)

I have conected everything up and done an auto scan which I can perform for varios Cable Networks (TW, N*L, Ex C&W, OM) some of which pick up a load of channels. However whan I go to view them most, apart from the basics BBC etc, come up with a $ sign next to them in the channel list and are not viewable.

After browsing these forums I tried Parental Control then the i button + 2007 which brought up the next menu. Autoupdate option was ON and the other selectable option was Nagravision I, II which has Provider ID, Key Number, and Key options to be edited.

This is where the questions start! Any help for a beginer and from scratch would be much appreciated

1) Which Cable Network should I scan with - or does it even matter?

2) What do I need to do to unlock the locked channels?

Di I need to mess around with the keys?

3) Also Is it advisable to get a basic TV package - do I need to?

Much thanks in anticipation WuTan

1/ Your area is TW
2/I don't have the "The Box PVR" but try this
press menu
(scroll down to)
system set up
(press ok)
parental control
(press ok)
old pin - press info then 2007
(sub menu should then appear)
(scroll down to auto-update and change to on)
exit then go to $ channel & wait for picture

You don't have to bother with keys

Hope this helps

I found on another thread/forum that you should set emulation to 'on' I havent tried that yet but does anyone know what it does?

Also, I am in Leeds but selected C&W and got 300 channels (many duplicated) but I think my area is ex NTL as the house has an old NTL box in. If I select NTL and rescan would that be better?

Some of the channels I have from scanning on C&W are very jerky when I watch them (disc animals etc..)

All help much appreciated.
