Talking Complete Newbie Question!!

Hi yall,

Im about to dip my newbie toes into the warm inviting waters of satellite for enthusiasts!!

Im reading **ALOT**!

But tell me this, if I purchased a CAM (dragon 4 example), could I put this into the CI slot in the rear of my TV to recieve channels without a satellite reciever?

e.g.setanta? top up tv?

Hope this isnt too laughable!!

Cheers all in advance.

Mark.

Hi, Mark.

You need a satellite receiver, and a dish, preferably a motorised one to make the best use of such a CAM.

It is for Top Up Tv, for Digital Terrestrial Broadcasts. I don't have DTT so I don't know any more.

But don't Top up TV and the likes of Setanta use the same conditional access encryption as the satellite channels irrespective of the transmission medium?

Does the fact that its a terrestrial broadcast as opposed to a satellite broadcast make any difference to the decryption at the consumer end?

Setanta is setanta whether it is broadcast via satellite or terrestrial is it not? If I call Setanta for a legit CAM, do they ask me if I'm gonna put it in my TV CI slot or my Satellite receiver?

There must be more to this than I understand currently but I need to know!

Setanta via satellite is encrypted in NDS videoguard as it uses the Sky platform.

The setanta CAM for DTT uses something else, not sure what, I think it's seca 2.

So no, the encryptions for satellite and DTT are not the same.

Yes, call Sentana, or go to their website and they will ask you how you intend viewing it:-Satellite,cable or DTT.
