Just a quick question
Gonna be installing a motorised system for the first time hopefully over the weekend and was wondering my longitude is Longitude: -8 so that means the closest satellite to me would be 8.0w which is Atlantic Bird 2. So once I have true south found do i put the usuals on the reciver to go to that sat and then line up with meter or would that be my true south? I have a professional meter if this helps. |

Yes if your longitude it -8 then 8W is the satellite closest to your true south, in fact is dead on your true south.
All you need to do is enter your lat and long into the receiver to as may decimal places as it allows then send the dish to 8W. The scale on the motor should end up on zero as your longitude matches the position of the satellite. You would then choose a strong transponder on that satellite and adjust the dish elevation (called declination) and swivel the whole assembly around the pole for maximum signal quality. Your motor elevation should be set according to your latitude and your pole vertical. Robbo

Hi 69,
Not sure where you are, but I am almost at 10W here in Kerry, and I use 8W for setting up on. The first thing you need to do is to get your pole up, remember it is better to have the dish where it is easy to work on it, it does not need to be high up. Your pole needs to be plumb on every side. If it is not plumb it will not follow the arc right and you will not be getting the outer sats of the arc. Before you put your dish on the rotor make sure the rotor is at the zero mark on the scale, if it is not then connect it to the box and use the buttons on the rotor to got it there, but it should be at zero as that is where it is set to before it leaves the factory. Before you mount the dish you should adjust the rotor for your latitude, on the scale at the side of the rotor. You now need to mount the dish on the arm of the rotor, ensuring that it is square to the body of the rotor, there should be a line on the shaft to help with this. Lint your dish so that the center of the dish is in line with the line on the rotor shaft. Now go here and download the software and follow the instructions SAT - Satellite Antenna Alignment (Satellite Dish Alignment) This will find you everything you need to set up your dish, providing that you have entered your lat and long correctly. One very handy thing on that software is the sun's azimuth, if you have the sun out and go to the back of your dish at the time of the sun's azimuth, and line it up with the sun your dish will then be pointing due south. When you have this done you will need to adjust the elevation of the dish, to do this you need to slacken the nut that hold the dish in it's position on the elevation adjuster. If you have followed the setting in the software that you downloaded, then there might not be any need to do anything. Good luck and we are always here to help if you need any. Very best regards Wez

Do you have a nice strong transponder on 8W you could post up wez?
As I read on another forum that some of the 8W transponders have gone a bit weak lately, and since you are close to cauliflower your stongest would most likely be strong for him too, rather than what I find strong where I am.

Hi again,
I use the Al Jazeera transponder for my setting up, it is 10927 V 27500 3/4. It is a very strong signal, you will have no problem with it 69. Very best regards Wez

one last thing I have a Horizon Sat meter
Horizon Global Electronics Ltd. So would I need the transponder info? I assume thats for Sat receivers? (Or I could be completley off the mark) also handy site for sat info Satellite Dish Pointer / Alignment Calculator with Google Maps Last edited by cauliflower69; 13-03-08 at 02:13 AM. |
