My computer is recovering from having to have a new hard drive installed, (the old one failed and gave me the blue screen of death!!) and I'm running Windows XP Home Edition with the Windows Service Pack 2 installed.
Since re-connecting my scanner, a UMAX 2000P, every time I boot up I get a message "Found New Hardware" and the computer is looking for an installation disc. The scanner doesn't need drivers, and the disk supplied by the manufacturers contains programs for use with the scanner. I cancel this Wizard every time, and then a message appears that software was not loaded properly. However, the scanner is working perfectly and the Windows Device Manager tells me it's working perfectly. This is not a serious problem but it is an irritating one, and one which I didn't have before. The Windows System Disk and the Service Pack 2 are exactly what I had installed before the new hard drive had to go in, so I wonder what I might have done wrong. I even tried disconnecting the scanner (in which case this message did NOT appear) but as soon as I re-connected it, and then booted up, back it came. I took out all scanner software (the programs) and started again, but still this message - it seems to insist that it wants software installed which it doesn't need. Any thoughts? I need the Service Pack 2 for sending faxes (as an option on the printing process).

Sorry, that doesn't work as there is no driver and I am then asked for an installation CD, which only contains programs, but the system doesn't realise that. The scanner doesn't seem to need any drivers.

Apologies, apologies - I did what you suggested and the second time it worked!! Many thanks Mickha and the booting up process is much faster again too.
