Default Re: Receivers/CAMs that can read a Sky card?

Something really, really weird happened last night.
You know I was asking in another post (thanks for raising this thread by the way Robbo - Great!), if my Fortec Star Passion HD receiver and Dragon CAM could take my Sky card?
Well, last night I decided to give it a go and without thinking I slotted it in the CAM the same way it came out of the Digibox (chip side down...)
Bad move!!!!!!!
My Dragon loader card is chip side UP!!!
Well, all my saved satellite settings went AWOL
When I selected Astra 19.2 it sent the dish way, way west to 5W to be exact. Then when I selected Astra 2A it went to 16E.
Even when I realised and whipped out the Sky card and rebooted the receiver all my settings had gone.
I had to rescan them and save manually, taking a good hour of my time. Mind you, one plus point, I did find a better signal (100%) from Astra 19.2

I WON'T BE DOING THAT AGAIN IN A HURRY!!!!
A valuable lesson learned. Don't be a smarta*se

Yes, it does sound wierd, as surely if you put the card in upside down there would be no electrical contact between the card and the CAM. So I don't really understand this effect.

Anyway, it is part of the fun experimenting. I too have wiped out all my settings on a couple of occasions.

Decided to put my Sky card in my dragon cam last night (in my Fortec Star Passion HD receiver) and hey presto it worked a treat

I can now view the remainding term of my Sky package without switching boxes... great!

BTW: Robbo, I put it the right way up this time, chip side up

You need to return your S*y card to the digibox every few weeks to receive the stay alive signal.
All you have to do is leave it overnight then return it to your Cam.

Thanks!
My subscription ends on 7th May and they'll be switching me off soon after that date (knowing S*y it'll be right on the nail). Will I still be able to receive the otherwise non available FTA channels such as Ch4 (+1), Ch5, E4(+1), S*y Three, etc with my card inserted AFTER my subscription ends? And if so, will I still need to return it to the digibox to receive the stay alive signal?

Ta!

The card is still valid for FTV channels after subscription end.

Yes, it will probably still have to back into the Sly Dodgibox as it did before.

TM6900 reads Sky card with Magic patch in multicard reader slot - Don't know yet about auto update. Got a Diabolo Cam also, My own experience was no success with Stealth - Underworld 1.2.4 works, (not as fast as the TM when channel changing).

Virtually all Linux based receivers will in one way or another be able read
and/or keep alive a Sky card

What nobody seems to have gone into is what emus will work with the said NDS sky card.

Both of my Dreamboxes will read a Sky card when used with CCcam, gBox, NewCs and Mgcamd, as too will my Eaglebox.

My old Technomate TM9100 will also read an NDS card using NewCS and also gBox

CCcam works and will keep the card alive - Mines been up and running for the last 6 months in mt 7020 with no problems.

gBox will read the card but will not update it

NewCS will read the card - No idea if it updates the card as i've only ever used it for testing

MgCamd will not read or update the card unless used with NewCS - I've only ever used this for testing

My Sky box hasn't even had a look in for the last 6 months

Just got a TM6800 yesterday, and that does too. Worth having as CH Four HD seems to be available too.
