Dunno, I have not got one, but I would presume that an internet connection is not required, as you are simply using a software emulator to read a pucker subscribed NDS card and decrypt the channels. No card sharing or key download from the net is taking place. Although, obviously an internet conection will be required at some point, to download whatever software is needed in the first place.

Hi

thats all I wish to do, use the box but with the sky card and keep it alive, without having to put it in a sky box every so often.

I do not wish to card share or download keys.

so after the initial set up it should work fine with the card and will no longer req internet ... hmmm looks like it will be a dreambox for me then.

just that lurning curve setting it up.. gotta start somwhere

cheers

One of the Dreambox/Linux owners should be able to confirm for sure.

The Vantage HD 8000S card slots can read a Sky card.
This means that it can read the information,of the card,it does not decode a Sky viewing card,as both card slots are CONAX.

Hi Mate,
I can assure you that any DM box will read and keep updated a Sly card, using the Ccamd EMU. I have a Sly FTV card and it is updated with that EMU. I have no Broadband connection either and you have no need of it for the Sly card, it will have to have been used in a Sly box before it can be used in the Dreambox. The Dreambox can have it's keys updated manualy, using DCC or any FTP software. Please understand that it will take some tim to get your dreambox sorted and running the way that you want it to, how long will depend on how much computer competent you are and how quickly you can pick up the basics of the methods used to update the keys and UMUs.

You can pick up a Dreambox 500s quite cheap now and it will do the job for you and you have the added advantage that the box will clear other channels. At the moment there are not all that many clearing, since Pr*m had gone to N3 and NDS, but it is only a matter of time till the N3 encryption is broken. You can still have all the eastern European channels, on 1W, with loads of Premier football and Champinions League and films, loads of them with English audio.

Very best regards Wez
