Newbie help please - Techwatch: Satellite TV forums, FTA, Cable, Hardware, & Tech forums

I have a DVB-T series card in my PC which I am informed will only pick up limited signals.

I would like to pick up some digital satellite channels (European only) and have also been told I need a DVB-S card.

What else do I need? Is it something I could easily do myself or would I need someone professional to put it all together?

I have never used a PC for anything else other then the usual surfing and work.

Help, please.

if you buy a DVB-S card then you need a dish at the other end of it !!

if you buy a DVB-C card then you will need a live cable feed for it !!

Hi hamish,
What insaan is saying is that the card you have is for Terrestrial TV. The DVB-C card is for cable and the DVB-s is for satellite. If you install a DVB-s card you will also need a dish to receive the satellites. You would be better advised to buy a satellite receiver, a FTA one will be fine, and a motor and a dish of about 90Cms. With that othfit you would be able to get loads of different satellites from all over the sky and loads, thousands literally, of channels from all over Europe and further afield. Hope this explains things a wee bit better.

Loved that program, Hamish Macbeth by the way, it was repeated last year somewhere.
