Thanks Guys. Gave it yet one more try and the motor is working!!! Have managed to get Astra 1 at around 92% for starters. Problem is I am getting "No Audio or Video" on the TV screen. I am using a scart from the Technomate "TV" socket to the spare scart on the TV (The other one on the TV is going to the DVD). The signal indicator on the Astra opening screen is green.
The menu functions of the Technomate are clearly displayed on the TV, just can't get the channels. Sky is working o.k. when I switch the Technomate off.

Hi mate I would think that there must be something wrong with the way the box is set up. In the box there should be a way of setting the AV output, if you can find it then make sure that the video is set to RGB, make sure that the output is set to PAL. There might be somewhere that you can set the AV control to ON.

I am sure that robbo will have a much better idea of what to do, but it is great to hear that you have got the motor going. Stick in there and you will win in the end.

Very best regards Wez

No Audio or Video on the screen means that the receiver is getting a signal of sufficient quality, but the channel you have chosen does not exist.

This means that either you need to do a rescan, or the dish is not pointing at the correct satellite.

I suggest you press the 'info' button, find out which transponder you are looking at and rescan the transponder.

You should then get pictures/sound. When you do, report back with the channel name and frequency.

Also you seem to have jumped ahead slightly, what happened on 8W? Does everything work as it should there?

Hi robbo I thought that when I was in bed, the part about what happened to 8W, it is a very valid point and if he has not got it sorted then he is wasting his time with 28E.

Very best regards Wez

Question Re: Dish setup info please

Back again!!
Can't tune in to 8W. Decided to unplug all of the Sky connections and try to set the Technomate up on it's own with a scart directly from the box to the TV. Selected Astra 1 and got it-pictures and all. Then selected Astra 2 and got that as well. Got the Sky box and connected that with the dish set at Astra 2 and up it came.Went to the signal test menu on Sky and it is at about half way across. Although the picture quality is fuzzy on some channels, on others it's good on others. I am thinking of tweaking the dish position to see if I can improve the strength on the signal bar graph. I will then reconnect the Sky which is feeding into the DVD and out of the DVD by scart to the TV and try connecting the Technomate up. Question???-should I come out of the TV scart on the Tecnomate directly to the spare scart socket on the TV or via the DVD?
Will keep you posted, but all advice gratefully received!!!!-Be lost without you guys.

Hi rowlejohn,
The reason you have got fuzzy pictures on Astra is that you have the dish set up for 8W and as you have not got it right there you are not following the arc and your dish is nowhere right for Astra. You really need to set the dish up on 8W or you will not get the other satellites correctly.

If might help if you can get Hotbird on the box, then try to peek that satellite, then work your way back down to 8W and then peek it, then you should get all the satellites. I should think that the next satellite with a very good signal to Hotbird would be 5E Sirius.

Just a thought, have you put your lat and long into the receiver? and have you set the receiver to usuals? And have you then set the dish to the correct frequency on 8W? Did you remember to get the pole absolutely plumb, if it is not then your satellites will not on the arc as they should be? I am sorry if I seem to be going over things, but best to be sure.

Don't give up the rewards are great and far outweigh the effort needed to get things right from the outset.

Very best regards Wez

Yep, I agree with Wez, if you are having problems finding 8W,try 5W or 5E, or whatever you can find closest to 8W.

If you have your lat and long entered as Wez said, and you have both 28E and 19.2E when you motor to them, you should be able to motor to one of the other sats closer to your longitude and readjust if necessary. As log as the pole is vertical and the motor elevation is correct, this will bring you closer to the arc if you are not already on it.

As far the scart question, it is up to you, it is usually only necessary to go through another box if you run out of scart sockets on the TV.

Question Re: Dish setup info please

Tweaked the dish till I got Sky signal very strong and quality is good. Back to your reply-the system was set up for DiSEq 1.2 motor control. I have changed setting to USALS and put in my Long & Lat which is 53.20 Lat, 7.05 Lon. When I set the motor on to the pole, I set the Lat. to 53 deg. The motor shaft was set at 0deg. and I attached the dish mounting dead central with it. The 2" pole is dead vertical in both planes-used a Stabila level which is excellent, and is mounted on T & K brackets which I welded up myself and is steady as a rock.
Selected Hotbird 13E and sent the dish to find it. I have two displays-"Level" (Don't know what that is-nothing in the book) which is at 88% and "Quality" at 22%. Sat. not found. Then went to Telecom 8W-dish went to find it-same outcome.
Do I have to send the dish to one of those Sat's then what do I adjust? Is it the tilt of the dish itself or the bracket attaching the motor to the pole (The one I have set to my Latitude) or the radial position of the LNB (Dead vertical at the moment). I have a signal meter-only a cheapie which seems to work o.k.

Hi On the subject of your scart I would think that if you need to have both your dodgybox and your other box both connected to your TV they I would think that you could connect your dodgybox with the scart and your other box to the TV with the AV leads, the red, yellow and white leads to the AV on the TV. You will have to manually change the TV to your other box, but the dodgybox should make your TV go to it when it is switched on.

Very best regards Wez

To set up a motorised dish the easiest thing to do is to motorise using USALS to the satellite closest to you due south (8W for you) , choose a strong transponder (Wez will have a better idea than me), I have a strong signal on 11010H 27500 on 8W.

Then adjust the dish elevation( the tilt of the dish) ( on back of dish itself) and swivel the motor round the pole for the strongest signal. Leave the motor elevation alone for now, it should be set for your latitude.

If you have problems even finding 8W, you can initially try it on a known strong satellite like 28E (after motoring the dish there with USALS), set it up on there instead. But to chech the arc is right, you should then motorise back to 8W and repeat if necessary.
