Well Guys-been up on the roof too many times today and at my age that's a feat!! Sent the dish to 8W Telecom Sat. and also got a compass bearing before I went up. Moved the motor bracket round the pole and also moved the dish elevation up & down. Got a whistle from the meter but no reading on the clock. Locked the nuts up when the noise got to it's peak but still no reading. Just got inside and I have lost my Astra 1 & 2 Sats all together.
Have now decided that roof climbing aint for me so I will have to get an "Expert" in to set it up. Thanks to all you folks that gave me good advice and put up with my long winded posts. Off in a bit for a few well earned pints-Cheers!!!!!!! ![]() ![]() ![]() |

HI again, I see where you are going wrong, at last. You need to have Atlantic Bird, you will not get anything from the Telecom Sat, it is at an inclined orbit of 1.7 degrees, so you can't get anything from it. You really need to have the box on Atlantic Bird 2 satellite and have the Al Jazeera channel frequency to find that sat. I never thought to advise you that there is no use trying the Telecom Satellite. The frequency you need is the one I gave you in another post, please try it.
Very best regards Wez

Is this a stupid question????
As you know, the dish is on a pole mounted to the gable end so the LNB is in mid air. For easier accessibility, can the pole be lowered so that adjustments can be carried out easier. If this works out, the pole and brackets could be marked with a reference line , the pole raised to it's original height and shouldn't be far out if the marked line was in place. In other words-will the alignment of the dish be different at say 8ft from the ground as at 20ft?? ![]() ![]() ![]() |

is there any special reason you have put the dish on the gable end.
going up and down those ladders?? me i get giddy when i wear a thick pair of socks.lol. is it not possible to fit the dish near the ground, then it would be much easier to do any sort of alterations and settings. i've got my 1 mtr motorised dish fastened to the garage wall very easy to reach. i am going to replace the 1mtr with a 1.2 channel master and i will install it in the same place just waiting for it to get a bit warmer |

The gable end points virtually due South and there are a few small trees at the bottom of the garden. The line of sight from where it is is uninterrupted and I was led to believe that the clearer the view the better.
Believe me, I aint no chicken and can well do without trying to emulate monkeys at my time of life!!! |

The settings for the dish will be the same at ground level as they are up high.
The satellite is 22,000 miles away, a few feet will not make any difference. You just need to work out the elevation angle from the bottom of the dish to the top of the trees (and allow for growth), and ensure it is less than the lowest satellite you want to 'see'. |

Hi John, It is much better to have the dish low down, as it helps when working with it, as you have found out it is not very convenient having it high up.
If the trees are at the bottom of the garden and are not that high then there should be no reason why you should not have the dish low down. I have both my dishes low down, well the 1.2tr CM is on a ground stand and the 90Cm is low down on the front of the cottage, looking due south. I find it great as they are both very handy to get at and very easy to work with. By all means try the dish low down and you will be very pleasantly surprised at how simple it is to do your work there. If you have a portable TV, an extension and a short patch lead for connecting to the dish, you can carry everything outside and work from the signal your box is receiving, that way you can see what you are getting and how it is on your box. Today is very nice here and I hope it is with you also, so you should get it sorted today. Keep up the good work anyway and good luck, I have a feeling that you will get it sorted today. Very best regards Wez

Hi John I would not give up m8 it took me nearly a fortnight to align my dish properly and mine sits on the ground in the middle of the garden! I received a free sat meter with my dish but I found this to be more of a nuisnace than help and decided to ditch it for the manual approach. I found the compass to find the South a lot more use than the sat meter. Once I knew where South was I identified a landmark which was in alignment with the South and the dish so that i could than point to it whenever I needed to realign the dish.
I always make my motor go to '0' point the dish South before I start than I select the satellite Thor 1.0W and BBC World. The first time I did this I got half a picture than I tweaked my dish till I got a decent picture and a signal of 90%, I than tried Astra 28.2E and tweaked that till I got a decent picture than i did 19.2E and 13.0E. Everytime I went tuned a new satellite I kept coming back to Thor to fine tune my dish. These guys are experts and have given you some fine advice but I just thought I would mention how I did mine as it is slightly different to the method suggested above. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() :c heers:![]() ![]() ![]() Hi folks-got sorted thanks to the invaluable help from all subscribers to my posts. Had a lanky young mate from Tipperary stop over who volunteered to get onto the roof. Reset the dish to vertical and pointed it due South and reset the motor to zero. Sent the dish to Sirious and using the meter peaked the signal then fine tuned it on the Tecnomate to 90%+. Tried Astra 1 & 2 then Hotbird. Result is all three Sat's are now coming through strong & clear. The on screen display "Audio & video not found" has gone and picture is clear and sharp. Particular thanks to Robbo & Kerrywiz for being patient and supportive. Great forum & members. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
