no image / sound

hey there,

i'm a complete satellite newbie but my dad's even worse and he's been having a problem. we've set the satellite to Astra 2 so we could watch a certrain Polish channel. it was all good until a week or so ago when it messed up. we have a signal, it picks up the channel, but there's just no image or sound. other channels seem to work.

any idea what this could be?

Welcome to Techwatch

The channel has probably moved to another transponder or gone from Astra 2 completely.

What was the channel name and what frequency were you picking it up on?

Actually, I didn't think there were any Polish channels on Astra 2.
Flysat doesn't list any?

Are you sure you have the satellite correct?

What channels do you still have going, just list a few and their frequency.

hi robbo,

the channel was TV Polonia. there are a few other Polish channels on Astra 2 that we do receive, strange enough. TVP Kultura and TVP Historia are two of them. the frequency we have Polonia set to is 10862. i had the decoder's channel organiser auto-scan all the channels, and Polonia was in fact found on that exact frequency. there's just nothing to see or hear when we go to that channel.

i'm not at my dad's place right now so i can't give you any frequencies, but i'll probably go there tomorrow and write a few down

Don't worry, I think I know what satellite you are on.

It is not pointed at Astra 2(28e) but Astra 1 at 19.2E.

The reason you are not getting a picture etc appears that you are not tuned to the correct frequency.

TVP Polonia etc are on 10773H 22000 5/6.

You need to do a scan of that transponder instead and your channels should come back.

BTW, I have just done a scan of 10773H and channels are coming in loud and clear no problem.

Hi mate,
I could well be very wrong as I don't watch astra2 that much and even then only for the BBC and ITV channels, but I can't ever remember seeing any Polish channels on the astra2 satellites. The most of the Polish channels are on Hotbird @ 13E and I would think that you would be far better advised to try there for Polish channels.

I have just had a look on King of Sats and Polonia is most definitely not on any satellite in the 28E cluster. Have a look here Search Results for - KingOfSat
You will find all the satellites that Polonia is broadcast on there.

Pretty sure he's on 19.2E, from the frequency he quoted. But its also on Hotbird (13E) 11488H 27500 3/4.

It is probably at Astra 1 at 19.2E and always was, as TV Polonia is not on Astra 2 (28.2E), and I don't believe it ever was.

If you set the transponder frequency I mentioned before and do a scan , this will confirm.

Each satellite has a load of transponders, each one transmits the signal to us on a different frequency. You just need to pick a different frequency to what you had, the receiver may refer to it as TP.

In the installation/setup menu, there will be an option somewhere to select a TP and scan it. If it isn't on the list you will need to add it. Also you should select the AStra 1 satellite rather than Astra 2, as it is more likely to be in that list.
