Help wiht DOS

Hi all,
Some of you who have dreambox will know what I am talking about here, but it is of interest to everyone.

I cannot get a feedback form a DOS request for my IP configuration and I need it.

I am using Vista on a Sony Vaio laptop.

I am attaching a screen capture of the the result so you can see it.

hello dont know if this will help you for the dos thing but it is worth a try right
Go to Start>then all Programs then click on the accessories and click on the run thingy and type in the name of the software as you have showed in the screen thingy and see if that helps what i think that is that you have to find the name of that sortware wheather its such a file name.exe or something like that i have known these types of things before to do with the Dos thing and thought that you might hav to find the certain file name.{Sorry if it doesnt work}

Do you have admin rights on that account - all sorts of odd things stop working if you arent admin level

Hi AS and Bart,
I have got admin right to the account, It is just so strange that I can't get anything form my commands. U have attached a grab of my account setting for you to see.

Is there any way I can put a command in the DOS prompt for anything just to see if it is working, I am connected to the 500 just now.

see i have vista myself and i have a laptop and yes i did have problems with it but my laptop is working great now and thanks to me for using the safe mode thingy its all working perfectly now which is great.
sorry about this Kerrywez im a bit lost as to what has happened so you have got an admin account and may i ask what is the 500 and im not really use to the DOS prompt i dont think there is a way to put a command on the the thing to see if it is working but im not sure you have to check with other members to se what they think

Sorry Mate,
I was talking about my dreambox 500 as opposed to the 7025. You might just have hit on something though, I have that safety thing disabled, I will enable it again and see if that does the trick, thanks. I can't even enable the thing, the user account control. I can't understand what is going on here at all. I shall mess about for a while, but will go offline to do so, just incase it is being on lind that is blocking my enabling the user control.

KW - Im no expert on Vista but heres a couple of ideas to explore - not necessarily related to the comms problem you are exploring. (its the end of a long day and Im running out of ideas atm)

Make sure only one item (computer, router or DB) is set as DHCP - if you have more than one you will have horrible problems - I have my router set as the DHCP

FFS dont diable any firewalls if you are connected to the net! But check that it hasnt been firewalled out by a rogue entry in the firewall progs (Norton Vista etc)

if you need help to do with the windows vista problems i know a certain thing that might help you but i cant guarantee that it will help but it helps with all the things to do with windows vista and i find it very helpful as i dont know much about windows vista
but i do know something about windows vista and all of that so ill try to help as much as i can

I have just been to the Vista support site, but they just explain how to enter command prompts in DOS and I have been entering them correctly. They say that if you type HELP in the command line then you should be taken to the help pages, but the damned thing will not even do that for me, so there is something wrong with my OS as far as DOS is concerned. I have mailed them, but forgot to attach the screen grab, I shall do that now.

I don't know vista, but in the old dos days it was necessary to have a path variable setup in config.sys for programs that were in the dos directory or it can't find them.

So in your case you need to find out where ipconfig is and add it to your path. On my PC it is in C:\windows\system32.

On XP you right click on My computer,select properties, select advanced, select environment variables, then add %systemroot%\system32 or wherever ipconfig is to the path statement. ( Vista may be similar)

Alternatively change directory to it and run it from there,as in piccy below.
