dbox no satellite plz help

hello every1 this is my first post to the site. i would greatly appreciate if someone can please help me out. my dad recently bought a dbox off Ebay the dbox was described as------ "Nokia Dbox with remote

for satellite TV
MULTIMEDIA TERMINAL DVB BY NOKIA
flashed with latest DVB2000 Software (english Version)
receives all digital tv and radio channels from any satellite !
settings already installed (over 3000 free to air channels)

Astra 19,2° / Astra 28,2° / Hotbird 13° and many more
Box is stable in debug mode"----------

when i plug the thing in, it boots itself up and then i have a black screen. i'am able to flick around the channels but there is no picture. at the top left of my screen there is a picture of a satellite with an x through it. can some plz help me it would meen alot. Thanks, btw i'am a complete noob at this so please when u r explaing what to do plz speak to me as if i was a compete idiot. thank you again, and i will be extremly greatfull.

Most of the Dboxes sold on Fleabay are cable boxes. Can you post the item number?

i'am having difficulty replying to the post.

wat i done was took the 2 satellite wires out my sky box, and put 1 of them in the back of my dbox as there is only 1 port on my dbox. is this te correct way to connect it to the satellite.

Hi Paddy,
When you say two wires from the back of the Sly box, what did they look like?

The only "wire" worry need worry about is the one with the nut type end on it, it is called the coax cable and the end part is called a F connector and the other end of it should be connected to the LNB on the arm of the dish.

If you were getting a signal on a Sly box then you must get one on the Nokia, unless the tuner is goosed. The dish should be pointed at the Astra2 cluster of satellites and they have the strongest signals in the British Isles so there should be a very good signal to the box. try the cable with the nut type end on it, but never connect any box or cable while the box is switched on, always unplug the box to be sure.

Make sure the D-Box is tuned into Astra28.2 not the other satellites that are pre-programmed.

You do know that this box will only receive the Free to Air channels on Astra2 - you cannot get any Sky Satellite channels without access to a card

what Kind of Dish did you have?
be sure that the Diseqc settings ar correct..
if there is a crossed Sattelite out on the Top of your screen .. there will be no signal..

I've just sold mine. Only got £11 for it

They are a waste of time for anything other than a free to air receiver

You will find the channel searching function in the menu

I only purchased mine to play with and to use as a free to air receiver on 28.2e. You can get them to work with other packages but they are a lot of work to get them to do anything. You have to use them pretty much like a cable box using programmed cards like a funcard.

Mine had the original Premiere operating system on it when i purchased it and i put DVB2000 on it just to prove to myself i could.

Sorry to say mate but you've been had just like most other people have with the dBox 1

you´re right mate, i´ve got a Satelitte Version of it ..
i´d tryed anything with this receiver..
but with a SCSI2 Card and the SCSI2-Cable it´ll be nearly up to date..
Watch TV on your PC, record on PC, change settings..
with a season interface also CS is possible.. (amon-or wannissa chip recommend)
but it´s my Hobby , so i don´t dread any cost to do something..
but without any equipment ...
you´ve got only FTA and a lot of Time to get it work...
