Unhappy Licensees hit with £4,000 fine for illegal Sky screening

Licensees hit with £4,000 fine for illegal Sky screening

Two licensees have been hit with £4,000 fines and left with a criminal record after using a domestic Sky card to screen Premiership football matches.
Patrick Gawley of the Alexandra, Wood Street, Barnet, was fined £4,000 and ordered to pay £986 in costs and a £15 victim surcharge after being found guilty on four offences of dishonest reception of a television transmission.
Rachel Ford licensee of the Hub, Wheelright Lane, Coventry, was fined £4,000 and orderd to pay £701.25 costs and a £15 victim surcharge after also being found guilty on four offences of screening matches using a domestic card.

“We will continue to see publicans pay substantial fines if they persist in breaking the law in this way," said Federation Against Copyright Theft prosecuting manager Stephen Gerrard.
"Case after case demonstrates how we are successfully pursuing and prosecuting those licensees who are fraudulently showing Sky programmes in their premises.”
A Sky spokesman said: “This case demonstrates how seriously the courts take this issue and the penalties for illegally showing Sky programming.

Brown envelopes everywhere,of course this where the programme was shown without the £5K pint logo on the screen.

However the North Wales Crowd were not showing Sky for soccer, but this
Stephen Gerrard, is only representing a federation,I have no doubt in my mind that Sky are financing this so called fed of copyright theft.
Jackboots come to mind.

well what do sky expect if they take the **** with the price of commerical subscription, some small pubs wont be able to afford commerical subscription so are going to take the risk.

if i had a pub i would take the risk and do the same. i wouldn't be taken over a barrel just to show live sport.

also i think sky must think that everyone who goes into a pub goes to watch live sport, as that assumption is wrong. so each pub will have to think hard on whether it will be value for money/bring in business to there premises

All the time publicans etc are prepared to pay this silly money, Sly will keep on charging it, especially since they have no competition. Wouldn't it be good if every commercial subscriber canceled and refused to pay these exorbitant fees, I'm sure they would bring the prices down a bit then.

Bloody cheek using the copyright mobsters to do their dirty work for them. Robbo is right, if they all canceled I feel that the cost to the puns would fall and Sly would be begging them to come back.

I well remember the very first time Sly charged for a live fight, I said to everyone nobody will be mad enough to pay for that, but pay they did and now look at where that has go us.

I was under the impression that it was the premier league who took "transgressors" to court, but I reckon that these baskets from the copyright mobsters will get well paid for their efforts and it will look like some big deal to the judges, as a fellow country man once said "the law is an ass", and he is still right in this day and age.

Problem is,the small local is hit at top whack £400 min a month, but the multiples like weatherspoons and a few more with hundreds of outlets
will get a reduction, and it is this crowd of multiples that Sky loves,I would not be surprised if directors of some multiples are on Skys board.

It is a shame the local is doomed, where I live, very rural, in the past year
three out of five have shut, one is now a chip shop & pub as a last try. None have Sky can not afford it.

Just like benefit and Council tax spies, there is now a breed of spies calling into pubs to see if the pint logo is on the screen,of course Sky or whoever
will pay on results, A friend who works for the local County Council, told me
he had overheard baliffs do moonlight spying, dont know any more on this.

So now, no rural pub, no post office, whats next.
