Default Delayed Sound

I have recently purchased a Samsung LE37R87BDX HDTV and I am satisfied with the picture quality through my Sky Digibox.
The trouble I have encountered is, that there seems to be a sound delay when I hook up the TV to my stereo amplifier (whether or not I have surround on or off, on the amplifier).

My old Philips 32" widescreen CRT TV which was connected to the same digibox and amplifier didn't have this problem. Before I go out and buy a new amplifier, I thought I'd better ask if there are any answers or fixes for this problem?

it's doing my nut in!

Hi RoRo, does it happen on all channels or just the occassional sky channel? The reason I ask is that sky do get their sound and vision out of sync sometimes.

How are you connecting the tv and amplifier? Whilst most modern AV amps have a sound delay adjustment I have not found any need to use mine.

Is it a normal Digibox or is it HD with video processing?

My own connections are Digibox to AV amp using s-video and optical audio and AV amp to Plasma using HDMI. That does not give sync problems.

My dvd connection is via video component and optical audio and that does not have sync problems either.

Unfortunately I cant explain the problem that you are experiencing. Let's hope another member can help.

I have a normal Sky Digibox which is scarted to the TV (Ext1)
A DVD player scarted to TV (Ext2)
The audio connection is from the Amplifier direct to the audio on the TV.

I buggered about with it last night and concluded it could be the HDTV and 'lipsynch' from the HDTV (as read from other posts)..
When the audio from the amplifier is connected directly to the Sky Digibox audio outputs, there is no delay but when I turn up the volume on the TV it is still evident.

Bah! I think I'm gonna have to live with this, unless there is something which can be plugged in to the TV which can counteract the delay????
thoughts..

As you are scart connecting to the tv,You should be getting sound via scart. Does that still lose sync?

As the basic Digibox does not have surround sound and only left and right channels you could take the sound from the tv sound output (if it has one) and feed the amp from there to supply extra speakers.

Is there a sound output from the TV as some have optical outputs? I would have thought that if there is, then the sound would be in sync with the picture as the digibox output is before the TV has had a chance to display the HD picture - just a thought but I might be wrong entirely.

I'm not clear on what you've got connected to where (despite drawing it out from your description) but have you considered connecting the audio from the digibox direct to the amp? This negates the need to use the TV speakers at all.

As others have said, the standard Sly digibox only has standard audio via either scart or red/white RCA jacks - you'll only get analouge sound from these up to Pro-logicII if your amp has the capability to decode it.

From my point of view, I don't see the point in sending the audio from a digibox to a tv and then back to an amplifier (which is what I think you are doing) it's better to go direct, IMO. I can sort of see the need if you are going to watch terrestrial at all, but if you've a dish why not ditch terrestrial completely?

Actually, thinking as I write, it might be of help to know what amp you are using and what connections it has?

Guys thanks for your replies :-)

It's the LCD TV that has slight 'lipsync' which is causing the problem, slight delay in sound on terrestrial Tv and Sky.
I changed back to my 32" Philips widescreen CRT to test and there is not a problem with sound so, process of elimination has proved that the Samsung LE37R87BDX has a slight sound delay.

As it is on the inbuilt digital signal as well, it is a Samsung panel problem.
