Yes just go to the voipfone.co.uk site and register. It doesn't cost anything and all internet calls are free. Landline calls are cheap as well.

If you have a network router, you can get an internet phone that works just line any landline phone without having to run your PC.

The USA tend to use the Skype system although the voipfone supplier is international and could be used in the USA. I use a Grandstream Budge Tone 100 phone but you can just get usb pc phones if you only want calls when the pc is on. I got my phone via ebay but they are sold by the voip providers.

There are many VoIP services around, I still have a Vonage (UK) setup, gives me unlimited UK landline calls for £5 per Month. I'm looking at a new ISP that offer a free VoIP service with 500 inclusive Minutes.

I've called a couple of Skype users and the call quality was lousy.
