Sony HDD DVD recorder keeps freezing

I have checked the software version and ,like yours ,mine is v1.00.02.

Just been looking through Digital Spy Forums and the view seems to be to turn OFF the software update.As I haven't had a reply from Anglosat yet I will try it and see what happens

Yes I recall them saying that, you will see Nigel Goodwin on DS somewhere

I have found the problem, if you record on the EPG it corrups the 711 and makes it freeze. This as been suspect for months.

Record by using the timer only and the problem is solved, sony must know this but would not admit the fault, thousands have been effected,when you consider the dam thing cost £500, I would have expected better from Sony.

So there you are, if you have a sony 711 HDD recorder, dont ever use the EPG for recording, otherwise a good machine.

Downloads to cure the problem, not in this world Sony.

Ok Bob Thankyou for that.Since I turned off the software update I have had no problems with it but I will bear in mind what you have found out if I have a problem again

Hello Brian.

Best thing is to turn the software update off, I never got a download anyway, but the EPG is the main problem with the 711 when you
try and record from it, if yours freezes again, you know why.
