Oh dear oh dear,
Here I am at 14:30 and not a sausage. I've not got the 'quality' bar to show anything other than 20, and it's like that with or without the wire the from the dish plugged in! I'm really struggling to find Thor, it seems, although I'm getting losts of squeaks from the meter, I have no idea what sats they are. This is proving more of a challenge than I first anticipated! I'm wondering if I've got it all set up on the reciever correctly too. Gonna have a think about this.! Phatjap. |

Try sending the dish to 28E, and see if you can pick something whilst adjusting there, it will be much easier to find.
When you have found 28E, send it to 1W and try again, it should be almost correct. Robbo ![]() |

Ok, embarressing myself now....still not getting anything what so ever. !
Perhaps if I list what i've done you may spot some thing? I've checked the mount and pole, level, spot on. Done the long and lat, it is 51.3N and 1.5w, I've set the motor mount to to 51.5 and the decl.on the dish to around 20-25,I've been wiggling and woggling and up and down the ladders like i'm posessed, frankly I'm knackered! Should the DISEqC Motor be set on 1.2 or USALS? It is a 1.2? I've input the antenna long. to 1.5 and lat to 51.3N Anything else ? Any help is really going to be apppreciated indeed!! Regards. Some suggestions
1. Drive motor back to zero 2. Check that the latitude is correctly set on motor (using the decimal rather than the degree/minute version) 3. Check how you have entered lat and long correctly on the receiver; (again, I believe it should be entered in decimal rather than degrees/minutes). 4. Select USALS on receiver 5. Use receiver to send dish to 28e (as suggested by Robbo)* 6. Select a strong transponder of 28e in the receiver* 7. Then adjust dish with very very small (indeed minute) movements until you get 28e* signal and quality. 8. Then try other satellites. * Other strong satellites that may be used include 13e (Hotbird) and 19e (Astra 1).

Set the receiver to use USALS is the easiest way.
Whichever satellite you are trying to find start off with the motor on the pole so that when at 0 degrees the dish looks roughly south. Then send the dish to 1W and adjust the declination (woggle dish up/down) and swivel the whole assembly around the pole for maximum signal on 11325H. If you have problems on 1W, you can do the above on 28E instead as I said before, but pick a transponder from 28E instead. Robbo ![]() |

Naaargh, you're not being a muppet; we all go through it and after one or two eventual successes we become armchair experts.
With the motor initially at Zero (and everything pointing south) Look in the list of satellites in the receiver and select Astra 2/Eurobird 1 which should be 28E and select go to; or use Hotbird 13e or Astra and indeed press 'Go to'; it helps if you/someone can confirm that the motor is moving. For 28e good transpodners are: 11642V, 11390H; for 13e - 10971 H & 12713V; for 19e - 11538V. You will get there, just make small movements. If you can see the TV and its display of the receiver's signal meter you might not need the signal finder though using the signal finder can help too --- but you have to listen carefully to detect what the changig pitches mean in terms of how close you are to a satellite.

I've just discovered the 'thanks' button so sorry for not using it sooner! I am grateful for all your input, everyone! OK, I know the motor works as I've witnessed it myself! Sadly I can't see the TV but my patient g/f has informed me there has never been any movement on the signal quality though. Do you happen to know what LnbF means on the front of the reciever? Is it normal? regards. Last edited by phatjap : 30-03-08 at 07:46 PM. Reason: Less haste more speed needed. |

Never mind about teething issues with the first attempt - it happens a lot.
The LNBF setting on the receiver should be to 'Universal'; do check and confirm that. Actually some more information might also be helpful e.g. what make/brand of receiver are you using; also, which was the last satellite you used/try setting up; how did you select the transponder in the receiver?
