Default Help with dish set up.

Hi all,

Well my kit all arrived today thanks to Ian- 80cm motorised with 5400ci.

I'm in the middle of setting up the dish as far as I can in the wind and rain...!the dish is up but although I've looked at this very good tutorial
Installing A Motor With Photos

I still can't see how to set it up regarding the long and lat. I can figure out the correct setting for the motor mount adjuster bracket on the pole, 51.2 deg. that is done as taken from multimap, but I dont know what to set the dish adjuster angle to?

can anyone shed any light here?

Regards,

Phatjap.

Hi

Declination Angle Table

The link gives your declination as about 7.4. You may use that as a starting point. To be sure use USALS to send dish to 1w (if that is your due south sat) and wiggle about for best reception and your declination should be ok

Morning,
Up bright andearly to continue my conquest.

I thnk I might not have been making myself clear yesterday, or misunderstanding, as usual!!

This is the angle I am looking to set which I mentioned in the last post, it's a terrible picture, sorry, the light is behind it, but it's the bit with degrees on I think it goes from 45-10. What should that be set at?

Regards.

Ok, bit more reading done, I think as my lat. is 1.8,this dish bracket angle should be about the 29. mark?

I'm sure we are on about the same thing; that is the back of the dish, right?

As I said, you may save yourself hassle about the theoretical 'declination'. Just set your latitude on the motor. Point the motor south; select Thor 1 in the receiver; ask receiver to send motor to Thor 1; then adjust the up and down movement of the dish until you get the best signal; wherever the dish is set to when you get the best signal is more or less the correct 'declination'. What you can do is to use the figure given in the table in the link as a starting point. Good luck ......

On the same site that bigtee linked to threre is a page giving the dish settings depending on the motor type:-

How to install an HH-Mount Motor? Applies to DG240-SM3D22-STABHH100-HH120-Motech-SG2100

But as bigtee says, it's much easier to just forget the calculations and just adjust for best signal.

Actually, that's an important point Robbo; and I think that might also be the exact point that the poster want to be clarified.

Thus how to reflect the declination angle on the dish scale depends on the type of motor. If it is the Moteck or similar it will be on the basis of subtracting the declination figure from the number 30. Thus if the declination for our poster should be 7.4, taking 7.4 away from 30 means that the dish scale should be set to something like 22.6 --- at least for starters until the best signal is established.

Conclusion to poster --- use roughly the position 22 on the dish scale as starting point.

I think there are two different versions of the Moteck, with the output shaft at a different angle, so it will be different for each.
