Default Universal LNB on current sky dish- anything to gain?

Hi,

after my dad has refused any chance of putting a new dish up I was just wondering if I can put a universal LNB on my current sky dish (just the normal digital one) and what sort of channels would I be able to get? not many I suppose
thanks

What LNB is on there already?

Sky minidishes are already fitted with a universal LNB.

With a normal Sky minidish pointed at 28E you would be able to pick up the FTA channels from those in this list with a standard FTA satelllite receiver:-

Eurobird 1 & Astra 2A/2B/2C/2D at 28.2°E - LyngSat

Hi, sorry I am unsure of what LNB is there just the standard one that comes with sky dishes i suppose. I am sorry I didn't phrase the question properly, I do get these eurobird channels, what I meant is, is there a way I can get channels that are currently unavailable to me, like foreign ones, by making any changes to my current Sky dish.
thanks

The normal LNBs fitted to normal sky dishes are universal, but they are designed especially for Sky dishes because the dishes are oval.

To receive foreign channles you would need a non-sky satellite receiver and to swivel the dish round to a different satellite, eg 13E (Hotbird) or Astra1 (19E) etc.

The zone 1 minidishes are too small to add an offset LNB to, I believe it is possible with the zone 2 minidishes though.

Your only option really is a twin feed system, but you will likely want a bigger dish. A 60cm pointing at 19e will get a good signal off 28e as well - would you get away with that?
