Reception problem - Techwatch: Satellite TV forums, FTA, Cable, Hardware, & Tech forums

Hi All

Have my first newbie question and I’d be grateful for any advice.

I am having problems with frequencies 11642 V and 11623 H on what my Fortec Star Passion STB calls Astra 2A 28.2 (but is Eurobird 1 at 28.5 ???). I’m getting 70% signal and 100% quality on both frequencies, but no picture and broken sound. As far as I can tell all other free channels at 28 are ok. Is this a dish or LNB alignment problem, or something else?

Hi matt, Try doing a rescan of those two transponders as it very difficult not to get them as they are on Eurobird1 which is very strong.

Are all channels on those two transponders like it ?

Yes all channels are suffering the same problem - will try another rescan.

Ah, that is probably the old Cordless phone interference problem. Switch off (or move away) any nearby cordless phones and test the picture thereafter.

Thanks Bigtee - you were right. I killed the phone and the reception was perfect!

Pleasure Matt; apparently some satellite transponder ranges, especially 11642, are on the same frequency range used by cordless phones and that leads to the problem. I've heard that a cordless phone in a nearby house (e.g. touching walls) may even do this!
