Default Two receivers from one LNB??

To expand on this a little...

Can a single LNB feed be split to supply two or more receivers without signal degradation?

The reason I ask is...

You can connect an analogue/digital receiver here. Remember to shutdown your Dreambox completely in order for your receiver to work.
Essentially, I'd like a feed to my DB and PC.

Hi, again

The best way to run more than one receiver from a single dish is to use an LNB with more than one output, eg a TWIN for 2 or a QUAD for 4.

Some receivers also have an IF feedthrough, that can be connected to a second receiver, although to work properly the first receiver must be switched OFF.

While I appreciate that your advice is the best way to go , It doesn't answer the original question does it?

With hindsight I could have run 2 cables from my neighbours quad when I wired the media center, but I didn't know I was gonna end up with a DB as well. I think I might just try seeing if a mini-dish will pick up a signal through the silver birch that blocks my dlos to 28.2E.

A single Universal LNB can't be split.

This is because it contains 2 switches, one to switch between hi and lo band and the other to switch local oscillators. The IF feed through if you have it would work though.

Trying to get a dish to work through a tree most likely won't work.

IF = Intermediate Frequency according to the glossary, but there is no reference to hi and lo band (I assume they are the frequencies either side of IF).

The frequency figures on the Lyngsat pages for 28.2E range from 10714 to 12740. I assume those figures are in MHz which would put them in the Ku band - thus 28.2E is not in the IF range?

Yes the frequencies on lyngsat are ku band , however those frequencies are far too high to be sent down the cable without too much attenuation, also the bandwidth is too wide.

The LNB down-converts the ku band to the IF frequencies, and the band is split into two parts.
Inside the LNB is a mixer and two local oscillators, one of which is selected by the receiver.

Do a google search for "LNB mysteries explained"
