Problem after OTA upgrade of X221TSCI

Found the menu option for OTA software upgrade, so thought I'd try it on my 2-month old box, which is connected to a DiSEqC switch and 13/19/28E positions.

It found the satellite, and showed that I had version 0.29A, and that 0.52A was available, so continued.
It then unexpectedly showed a menu for Ger/Aus/Hol so I selected the latest (Hol, dated around Oct 2007 - effect seems to be that the Dutch stations come first in the channel list, and the OSD language is set).
Seemed to complete OK, and automatically rebooted and went into standby.
Here's where the first difference is noticeable: when in standby (including via remote), the display on the box is blanked, instead of displaying the time.
Anyway, the first thing I did was change the language back to English, then checked that the software was the right version. The heading is X221CXCI, no mention of TS, but the menu option for Terrestrial is still present, so I guess it's OK.

Here's where the problems start:
1. After switching back on, the Sat button menu shows only Astra1 (and All), regardless of which satellites are enabled (DiSEqC != Off).
2. I get no signal on any transponder, any satellite.

I've tried switching off the main power and restarting, but that doesn't help.

Is the box bu99ered?
I can't try a new OTA upgrade, as I can't get a signal.
The only computer I have with a serial port is running Windows 98 - can I run the download from that? (Of course, it's down in the basement with no TV nearby...)
Any other checks I can do, or advice, please?

Hi,

I don't think that your box will be buggered.

All I can suggest is going to the official vantage website and download the latest firmware that way.

Sorry, I have no idea if a win98 PC would work, at least one of our members wod has a vantage, hopefully he would be able to help when he next logs on.

There's been a new development in the saga:

Thought I'd see if the box works OK on terrestrial, in the meantime.
Connected up the aerial, did a scan, and that was OK.

Switched back to satellite, and guess what - it's working again now.

It's good news, but at the same time it worries me that errors like that can occur.
I realise that there's no such thing as a 100% bug-free system, but it's not as though I was pushing it to its limits...

I'll try downloading the next update from Internet instead!
I shall invest in a USB-to-serial adapter, so I can use my laptop.

yes i don't use the over the air update as always prefered the serial cable route

after updating the software you always need to resetup diseqc switching as the settings are wiped so make sure you make a channel list with the settings editor that you can reload .

glad you got it working as nobody seems to chat about these or help with any problems i've found but if you need any other help jsut post on here
