Yeah I agree madrat, when I last took a dashboard out a long time ago I had a whole handful of screws left over.
Well least you found the problem in the end, that's the main thing.

heh that reminds me when I thought I will do better changing the fusebox to my escort (ford, not the would be sexual partner although I was close to f*k it at some point) Anyway the garage told me £500 (inc materials) Ford dealer asked 235 for the box without fitting so I thought I will do better to get the unoficial one for 140 and change it myself. The only thing ididn`t think of is that you should change all of them relays bridges etc one by one so whatever you take from one box fits into exact location in the other. You can gues that I was left with the carton box full of things and two stripped fuse boxes. This time I was told It would cost me 800 to put things right again . Took me couple of days to look up all the scrap yards to find exactly the same car as mine a do it the propper way this time. (using the fusebox from the yard as a template ) Now beat that. The mechanics in the garage still remember me even though it happened years ago and my then dear car is long been recycled into something I hope usefull
